I love controversy,I always have A round in the chamber, the safety is on,or off depending on which stage of the hunt I am in.

I don't know of any one who would not have a shell in the chamber when hunting with a shot gun, what ever the game.

If this is so dangerous why are there not dead hunters all over the woods.

Gun control is more important than any mechanical safety.I you would not hunt with me because I have a round in the chamber, you are missing out on some great Hunting with a safety consious hunter.

So....you hunting Taliban there Rick? 'Cause unless you are using your firearm aginst a human being, it is NOT a weapon.

FFS, I don't know if this is the new tacticool word for hunters, but I've seen more and more people referring to everything from their Gramps 30/30 to a friggin crossbow as a "Weapon"

A weapon is a tool of combat....C7, C8, C9, LMG, GPMG, Carl G.....stuff designed to fight PEOPLE. If you are using it to hunt it is a TOOL....NOT a goddamn "weapon"

Although I whole-heartedly agree with you, in the Alberta hunting regs. Your choice of Bambi-slaying device is defined as a "Weapon". We just have to educate the youngers that the gubmint is full of twits.

always loaded whether its a gun or crossbow and the only time i use a sling is when i am walking through an open field. while going through the bush i always carry in a ready position or use a one handed carry.

With a rifle , I'm locked and cocked with strong hand across the trigger guard and thumb on the safety.
With the shotguns, I sometimes carry open with shells in the chamber, but more often than not same as the rifles.
On my long range rifles, it's opened bolt, I do not load them untill I see something I want to shoot.

Cat

when alone still hunting, i carry shell in the chamber ,cocked , safety on, if i can see people any where , i take the cartridge out of the chamber and put it in the magazine, then close the bolt empty chamber uncocked, i had a guy shoot his rifle by accident from a few steps behind me the bullet went between my legs and hit the ground a few feet in front of me, nobody gets behind me with a loaded gun,, ever, i think my luck may be gone, wade

I just got back from 3 rainy miserable days in the mountains for the fun of it I tried every different carry method described in this thread...

Made it back safely without a single accidental/negligent discharge because I kept my finger off of the trigger... :D

Depends...when I'm walking on sure footed ground im slung or strong hand carrying with a chambered round, safety on. If the ground is slippery, or unstable to were I feel uncomfortable I'll unchamber the round till I'm back on solid ground...I've already slipped in a mud hole and had a loaded .300 RUM pointed at my face...never again.

Some folks figure all-season tires are just as good in the snow as studded winter tires too.....

They usually change their mind once they've been upside down in the rhubarb though.....

In the winter when I drive I talk on the cell phone, drink coffee and shift gears in my 4x4 diesel F250 and get this I do it all at the same time...

Guess I should be in the rhubarb patch as well not...

Here's why because I also know how to drive in any condition same as I know how to carry a firearms safely in any condition... :p

Nope...Thats the funny thing about the internet...When you make assumptions about others, you look like a fool.

I merely find it comical that you actually think that walking hot into heavy brush with the safety off of a rifle is "safe" because you figure you can "handle it"....(Quotes mine, for emphasis).

Either you don't have a very good grasp of the concept of "safe" is, or you don't have much of a concept of what thick brush is....Or you are purely arrogant, and think you have the right to put others lives in danger because you aren't competent enough to slip a safety off in the heat of the moment....Dunno which it is, but I find it down right funny that you feel you can judge me, based on your own actions.

What I think is most likely the issue here with you though, is that you got your pecker smacked for an unsafe practise and you got your feelers hurt and just can't let it go...
