I have heard that they're in the process of switching to a Glock 9mm. Does anybody know what model they'll be using? Just curious.

Best regards,

Well if their using the 22 one would think they would use the 17 if their switching to 9mm since it's the same in almost every way as the 22.

They should keep them in storage to arm the populace, lest a hostile uprising should happen, by the some fanatic sector of our country.;)

I had a look at one of those Sig 40 cal double action pistols at a club one night the OPP carry and I didn't like it at all . why would they even think of going to 9mm from 40 cal ? I know the recoil is more snappy with the 40 but if I was in law Enforcement I'd rather have a 40 than a 9mm . the Glock will be a welcome change . but they will have to get used to the trigger. practice practice practice makes perfect. or close to it. I heard some police departments in the US are switching to 9mm also. lots of talk on the net about used 40s coming up for sale for cheap.

Anybody have any idea if the RCMP are looking for something new? I know their inventory is around that 20 year lifespan..

That's "the million" dollar question? it will be difficult to find a pistol in a similar configuration and build like the 5946, switching to a " striker fired" pistol would be a real "left turn" for the agency, not to say it couldn't or won't happen. Since it's fairly dated and technology and materials have changed considerably, it's hard to find a pistol manufacturer that makes a similar product. I'm guessing overall cost replacement, maintenance/support and parts replacement will factor in more in the next choice, but's that's just my personal opinion.

Do some reading, 40 offers nothing over 9mm other than higher costs, fewer rounds, more recoil, and shorter service life. The 40S&W was a very well marketed gimmick.

That's a luxury they don't have money/time for.

If you value your life you train on your own time and your own dime..

He means they don't get alot of free ammo to practice with and most won't seek practice or training outside of the ammo their given unless quals are coming up.
Sad but true..
