What model of Glock will the OPP be switching to?

I'm putting the final touches on my tinfoil hat; almost ready.

It is a shame that they'll be destroyed. Waste of a good firearm and fiscally irresponsible.

I don’t know how the RCMP operates, but I believe it’s fairly standard practice in law enforcement circles to let officers keep using the pistols they are comfortable with and that they were trained on as newer recruits get trained and armed with a newer firearm. Some forces had older officers still using revolvers as newer recruits switched to semi-autos.

I imagine newer recruits would get the new firearm and older officers would have the option to continue carrying the older pistol.

Good point, however how long will S&W support the 59 is anyone's guess? I don't believe that they would just "bail" but they don't "regularly" make parts, and I'm not sure the 59 is still in use anywhere else?. It seems they are focused on the "newer" pistols and don't want to be looking back IMO.
 
Fair point, I think Fisheries still uses them... Other than that, maybe the odd LE agency in the states, otherwise I can't think of any others. Based on the mechanism, I could see them going SIG, but who knows.
 
I think the P320 may have a better chance than the 226?, when you look around there really aren't too may offerings? if they want a pistol that you don't have to pull the trigger to disassemble. If they change that, then I guess that's opens more doors. Right now they use S&W, SIG, and Glock. Maybe the M&P makes another showing?

Once they (RCMP) pick another pistol other government agencies (OGA) will follow suit in short order, they are just waiting.

Well if they switch and keep the older guns, they should have a good number to cannibalize parts from. I imagine not every current officer would elect to keep the 5946.

I know a chiropractor that said he treats many LEO for back problems from all the heavy items on their duty belt .... I’m sure some would appreciate a lighter sidearm.

I think you will see the "transition" to getting most if not all of that "stuff" on the vest.
