What new gear did you try this year and how did it work

I found out my helly impertec pants let rain water drops from the leaves soak thru while elk hunting this year. They are two years old and I don't abuse them, I figured they would last longer than that. I will be in the market this summer looking for rain pants. I did however tip a bull elk over with my new Kimber 84L classic select in 270 win with a new 2.5-8x36 vx3 on it. The rifle is nice to look at, groups very well and put food in the freezer.

Was always considered unneeded waste, then I began to appreciate the finer things in life. Used to be cold wet rocks by the river side but moved up in the world.

I hope that determination was made prior to this season???

I bought an Outdoor's Edge Razor Blaze hunting knife with replaceable blades. Really happy with it. Not too expensive and super sharp.

I guess there is a few items I tried and used this season..

first would be the 7mm08 Kimber Rifle, all talk of such calibre is it is borderline light for the Sambar, but I had minimal trouble an shot quite a number of Sambar with it and quality Woodleigh bullet combo.

the other item was the EXPED 9 Synmat inflatable mattress , when I was searching and asking many Kiwis (NZ) hunters about what they use, all put me onto a store with a sale on this specific Brand matt and the ratings seemed to fit the bill.

I went for the LW (long wide) so its large for a 1 person tent, fits just snug in my 2 person 3 season tent.. absolutely love it and only gripe would be being the LW it is a tad bigger when rolled up an can take a decent amount of backpack space..

I tried some Australian branded hunting boots, Moroka 30 ATF king boot,,, people raved but I had nothing but problems with damaging to my Sole, blisters an just aches.. disappointed but not all bad.

cheers

Eberlestock J34 Just One Backpack.

Bought used but new to me. The scabbard was the feature I wanted when hunting the hills but I could carry everything needed.
With a bipod the rifle went in and came out easily.

bought 40.00 worth of deer piss products. tinks aerosol big buck scent, tinks smoke sticks, some stuff called berry doe in estrous.. shot a buck using it all at the same time. was a last ditch effort to get a buck this year.

First year hunting for me so it was all new, but I bought some of the Tink's smoke sticks for deer, all season and used them along with a MAD heat bleat call to bring in a ton of whitetail and mule deer, which helped my friends and I immensely. Will use the same setup next season for sure.

Just tried my new Nesco meat grinder. Made venison sausage first time..very happy with the machine. Price was right and it's quite robust. Sausages going on BBQ tonight.

Barely! You got lucky, Dogleg actually caught me riverside using the classic wet smooth rock method. You wanna talk morning refreshment... fortunately mountain house limits bowel movements when not corrupted with vegetables.

Excellent reputation....... beautiful territory...... amazing animals taken......

Worst...... marketing campaign....... ever!

Wildlife research magnum scrape dripper, worked amazing, now have a well established mock scrape/licking branch. A ton of KUIU, worked great throughout the season. Maxpedition Kodiak gearslinger, awesome for a daypack.Elite E32 and NAP Spitfire Maxx's, worked great
