What non-restricted sub $1000 black rifle do you recommend?

Looking for my first black rifle that is non restricted and a lot of fun to shoot. What do you recommend and why? I have an sks in ati stock coming but I don't consider it a black rifle really. Any suggestions are much appreciated.

Not exactly a lot of choice when you go brand new NR black rifles at that price point. The only one that immediately pops out at me is the Kel-Tec SU-16F and I'm not sure recommend is the word I would use.

$1000 isn't going to get you much, your only options in that price range are probably the t97 or a used vz58.

Personally I would keep the SKS in the mostly stock configuration. You'll sink allot of your hard-earned money into it for very little in return.

I'm glad I never started heavy into the SKS accessory cult. $200 gun with $200 of accessories... or buy two $200 SKSes. I went with quantity

I wouldn't spend anything more on the sks either. Personally I would pick up a NR vz58 if I was looking for something in that price range. it's decent gun that's cheap and fun to shoot.

I had a VZ58, sold it to find something easier to customize and mount optics.

I'm debating the new long rail JR Carbines for my NR fun gun needs.

Keltec makes the sub 2000 and it's a good one to get if you can find one
Shoots 9mm and under 1k

I did up a sks few years back wasn't worth the time and effort for a 200$ gun, been looking on in to a JR carbine my self
