What options are there for a 16" Winchester 92 or 94 in .357?

I'd call it a hair more than a tad. But you're right, it's not a whole lot. If you didn't pick them up back to back you'd not notice. Mostly it's the size of the receiver on the 94 which is longer to deal with rifle rounds.

If you go back to the shop to check on the Rossi see if they have a Win 94 kicking around to see them side by side and to let you heft them both.

The other thing is finding a 94 Trapper in .357. I don't see them come up that often.

I had a Browning B92 .357 Mag back in the day for cowboy action. It functioned well with .357's but if you short stroked the lever .38 Spls would hang up in the feeding. A game ender if that happened in a match.

Later sold the B92 [sadly] and acquired a Win '94 AE trapper [16"] brl in .357 Mag. It has the cross-bolt safety [sadly] in it. It eats both .357's and .38 Spls fine. At least I never had any feed issues with it.

Recently, been looking at the new Chiappa Model 92's in .357 Mag. Can't believe the seemingly wonderful job they have done with these. Example I looked at has great wood to metal fit. And detail like case color butt plate & barrel bands. As well as receiver & lever. And the proper "ladder site" found on original Winchester SRC's. Carbine version has 20" barrel. Been seriously thinking about picking one up.

NAA.

After comparing the 94 and 92 actions I think for a short 16" barrel rifle it definitely needs a 92 action. Currently leaning towards a Rossi due to availability

I really like my two Winchester/Miroku 1892 rifles. Bluing is beautiful, wood is beautiful.
Extra safety stuff? Yes, not as true to the original than the Chiappa or the Rossi. But i'm fine with that. Might be a bit harder to modify if you went that route though.
Ellwood epps has some large loop versions

This is mine
