What percent of SKS rifles are "more accurate"

So after some searching here I have learned that the average SKS is around 5-6" groups at 100 yards, but apparently there are some better examples that shoot around 3-4".
I am finally just getting into the SKS game and I have owned 2 now that both shoot average.

My question is how many would you say are better shooters? 1 in 5? 1 in 20?

Just trying to figure out if its worth trying to find one.

I doubt I can shoot better than an average SKS in the offhand position anyway, but something just bothers me about a rifle that shoots the same as foster slugs in my smooth bore 12 ga.

I have SKS that are "better" and and those that are "worse" depending on how I am shooting that day and how much work I have into that SKS.
The one thing that has made the most difference, is making sure that the receiver is tight within the stock, just by shimming.
Ammo quality makes a difference and then there are other little things that make a little improvement. But I wonder if the 3" or 4" groups at 100
are the result of a lot of things coming together for the shooter and maybe also the use of a scope? Ganderite has a sticky that compares nine
different ammo's in 7.62x39 using a few different rifles (primarily SKS) 5" or 6" groups may be all that the SKS can manage with out a lot of help.

Don't blame the rifle :) I can do better than 6 inches on 100 meters on good days, on bad days I mess things up with K98 or an SVT at 100m but still, SKS is not something that you should really think as precision rifle. Is a carbine from 1940s made to fire milsurp rounds.

When I switched to the VZ from the SKS I couldn't believe the difference, after 8 sks I found so so - ok shooting from some and TERRIBLE from others. One of my best gave me 5-6 inch groups at 100. And my worst was like 2 feet ( really rough looking one too, I should have known when I seen rust all over ) I couldn't hit a pallet with it well i got this for 100$ from a deal from a sponsor so whatever.

You should give mosins a try!! I find them more accurate honestly.

at 100 yards, my shooter SKS shoots about 5" groups with Chinese surplus and 3" groups with bulgarian surplus, that's with a high power scope and a good benchrest

I'm getting some other types of surplus to try to find the one it likes most

Hey, you might be on to something there, where exactly do you put the shims in? The other day I actually felt the receiver shift a couple times in the stock as I was shooting.

I read that sticky that Ganderite did, what I gather from it is that most surplus ammo is way more accurate than an SKS, so the ammo choice should not make much difference.

Many variables involved, including variations (and exaggerations)in how groups are measured in guys claims/reports.. With measuring devices or lack thereof!!

I'm using a Russian SKS, solid bench equipment and technique (I shoot sub 1/2 moa with custom bolt gun on it so it's not me) using the stock sights which doesn't help..

SKS is such a cool gun and so widely available... Trying to get an idea if I should keep buying until I get that "gem"

I have own many sks. I have never had any that were terribly inaccurate. Folks shoot the cheapest surplus they can get their hands on with a cheap receiver cover scope, and a cheap tapco stock and they say that their sks is inaccurate.

There are some mods that you can cheaply do that will enhance it. Polishing the sear and hammer, bedding the stock. Shoot decent ammo. Of the surplus stuff I liked Russian best.

Modified this way which might cost 6 bucks in materials it is rare to find a sks that is not capable of 3-5 MOA.

I have put techsights on a couple of sks. Yes it will increase the sight radius, but you lose the ability to adjust for range and the aperature is pretty small. I prefer the stock sights.

This is a picture of a group shot at 500 Meters. The target was just leaned against the berm so what I am seeing from the firing line is much smaller than it should be.

People of compare accuracy of the SKS to the AR platform. If you load crap surplus in an AR you will end up with very poor accuracy.

this is article from the box o truth http://www.theboxotruth.com/educational-zone-8-5-56-military-ammo-accuracy/

So is it the rifle or is it the ammo that we feed it. I have not really explored that too much as the sks is minute of capitalist pig out to 500 Meters with cheap socialist ammo.
