There's a lot of judgemental holier-than-thou opinons being thrown about. First and foremost, the fact that we're all fellow gun owners should be enough that the guy is given the benefit of the doubt. I make no judgements upon physical appearance.
You can be fat and an arsehole or you can be uber-fit and still be an arsehole. I've known both types, as well as lots of individuals who were overweight and the salt of the earth, do anything for you. I've known guys who were rack thin. Some were great guys, others were idiots. As for the super buff guys, for some reason there seems to be a greater proportion of ego to be found then with other body types, however, I always reserve judgement until I get to know the person. I've known Olympic level athletes that would give you the shirt off their back, others of similar body type were complete egomaniacs, walking around, flexing all the time and making complete fools of themselves.
I have to agree with an earlier poster though...this type of thread makes us just as bad as the "popular girl clique" in High School that always made fun of the poor kids, nerds, fatties, etc...despite the fact that their looks and social status were due entirely to getting lucky in the genetic lottery and having parents who made good money.
I don't care what you look like or wear. If you're a fellow shooter, you're automatically alright by me until you prove yourself otherwise. Then, I'll simply do my best to ignore/avoid you.
As for gear, etc... I'm not in the military and certainly wouldn't consider myself a "gear whore." Its hard to justify dropping $300-$400 on a chest rig and pouches, etc...when the only place I'll ever use it is at the range. I won't be repelling invaders, etc... Somewhere down the line I might pick up something simple just to carry a few extra mags for the Swiss Arms when varmint hunting, or for the ARs if my club ever starts up something along the line of a 3-Gun or CQB course of fire. I never saw the need to put a flashlight on my pistols or AR, especially as they'll only be used in daylight. However, if someone else wants to do that, more power to them! No skin off my rearend and if they like it, why the hell not? Shooting is supposed to be fun!
