What qualifies as a range commando???

When I go to the range I wear a Level 3 vest. I do it mainly because I never know who forgot to clear their guns, or who is wearing the earplugs too tight and didnt hear the " range is dead call". I also wear a duty belt with a pistol hoster and mag pouches. I will admit some of my gear is just for fun, but I am also training for the RCMP/Military. so i want to get used to wearing a heavy belt and learn to be active and effective with it. does this make me a "Raqnge Commando"?

And thats why tactical nylon and the latest in tac clothing should not come in ######L. I wear medium plates, and thats plenty enough coverage for a guy 5'10 180lbs.

offtopic a little, but the last time I was in Walmart, I heard over the loudspeaker, "We now offer Extra Extra Large sizes in all kids clothing"

I'm not sure if they make big size clothing to capture the market, or if they make big size clothing so that it gives people the excuse to get obeser.

Have you ever been in a WalMart that didn't have a McDonalds?? I can't, off the top of my head, think of any WalMarts that don't have one.

The difference is Cowboy action shooters know they are engaged in a game with a huge social aspect to it, they are also (the ones I have met) of exceptional demeanor. We seem to have more than our fair share of 500lb Grumpy Snipers come Socom Operators who have a hard time differentiation fact from fiction...just sayin'...How come we don't have a fitness section on this board?.

Good point.

I'd love to enter a civi shooting competition that involves a 17km march in less than 2 hours in full fighting order, carrying all your ammo (and everything else you'll need at the range) followed by a fire-team approach and run up competition starting at 1,000M.

I might be competitive for a change :)

Hmm..you mean the BFT with a 3 or 4 shooting stations. NOt sure where you could run this on a civi range? it 'could' be done at volks. lots of terrain there.

+1 fitness page. not just the 2009 weightloss thread.

No the BFT is a 13-km march while carrying 24.5 kg of equipment in a maximum time of 2 hours and 26 minutes.

Add 4 km, lop of 26 minutes and carry whatever you need to compete at the stands (might be somewhat less than 24.5kg)

that last run up from the 1km is going to drop most civis and probably alot of cf mbrs who are not the fittest either.

There's a lot of judgemental holier-than-thou opinons being thrown about. First and foremost, the fact that we're all fellow gun owners should be enough that the guy is given the benefit of the doubt. I make no judgements upon physical appearance.

You can be fat and an arsehole or you can be uber-fit and still be an arsehole. I've known both types, as well as lots of individuals who were overweight and the salt of the earth, do anything for you. I've known guys who were rack thin. Some were great guys, others were idiots. As for the super buff guys, for some reason there seems to be a greater proportion of ego to be found then with other body types, however, I always reserve judgement until I get to know the person. I've known Olympic level athletes that would give you the shirt off their back, others of similar body type were complete egomaniacs, walking around, flexing all the time and making complete fools of themselves.

I have to agree with an earlier poster though...this type of thread makes us just as bad as the "popular girl clique" in High School that always made fun of the poor kids, nerds, fatties, etc...despite the fact that their looks and social status were due entirely to getting lucky in the genetic lottery and having parents who made good money.

I don't care what you look like or wear. If you're a fellow shooter, you're automatically alright by me until you prove yourself otherwise. Then, I'll simply do my best to ignore/avoid you.:)

As for gear, etc... I'm not in the military and certainly wouldn't consider myself a "gear whore." Its hard to justify dropping $300-$400 on a chest rig and pouches, etc...when the only place I'll ever use it is at the range. I won't be repelling invaders, etc... Somewhere down the line I might pick up something simple just to carry a few extra mags for the Swiss Arms when varmint hunting, or for the ARs if my club ever starts up something along the line of a 3-Gun or CQB course of fire. I never saw the need to put a flashlight on my pistols or AR, especially as they'll only be used in daylight. However, if someone else wants to do that, more power to them! No skin off my rearend and if they like it, why the hell not? Shooting is supposed to be fun!

Yup.

That's awesome. I'm gonna try and incorporate something like that into some trips to the range....

The above is much better than going to the range with your buddies, choking each other to the point of unconsciousness, then coming to and engaging targets.
But then, maybe I don't get it because I've never taken the warrior course, and that's what warriors do!!

lol

Yay another idiotic thread!! Who gives a damn what a shooter wears, they have their reasons which are none of your business. Some of the posts here border on the idiotic,if that is the posters attitude I don't want them anywhere near me on the firing line.

ohhh yeah. total range ninja :p

you know going to a gunrange is safer than being on a golf course, thats why our insurance premiums are much lower. the vest is a tadd over doing it.

I refuse to allow reason to creep in and destroy a perfectly retarded thread...

The elitism and condescension of some in this thread is funny. What does it matter what people shoot or own? Some of us buy tons of gear because we are worried that tommorow we might not be able to buy it at all. I personally have a nice set of armour both 3A Balcs and Ceradyne 4 ceramic plates. I bought it not because I think the apocalypse might happen next Tuesday, more so out of concern that its probably inevitable that some socialist scumbag will try and ban it as only needed by police and military.

But hey if you want to stare at another guys ass who has nice shiny new camo...have at it

I usually wear a pair of 5.11 cargo pants and a T shirt to the range as that's what I'm comfortable with but, really, who gives a s*it what people wear when shooting or what they dress up their firearms with. Firstly, we need people to be interested in firearms, own them, shoot them, spend money on them etc or the sport is dead. Secondly, as long as people are safe and not a danger to others (or themselves) let them be.

I wear ACUs all the time... they're cheap, comfortable and durable.

+1.
I don't know about you, but when I was a kid I had a special set of "play-clothes". Basically a denim outfit reinforced at the knees, butt and elbows.

Now that I'm grown I have a couple sets of "play-clothes", reinforced at the knees, butt and elbows. The only difference is that they're a camo pattern poly-cotton twill with a bunch of extra pockets.

If that makes me a range commando, then so be it.

The range is a sandbox IMO, do whatever you like as long as its safe.

That mostly speaks to my philosophy on life as well......do whatever you want as long as it doesn't trample somebody else's rights.
