What reticle do you like for service rifle?

^ LOL!

Well, wind hold can be accomplished by knowing your target dimensions, so I recommend a not-to-busy reticle. I've used mildot, duplex and The Post (Elcan!)

The Elcan is surprisingly nice to shoot, even at 500m.

Really though, I'd say just learn to shoot what ever you've got, and stick with it until it's instinctive. I think the bigger question would be "what magnification?"

I used a Bushnell Tactical 5-15x in the Sept. 07 match to good effect. Understanding the course of fire and what you will need from your equipment will help you decide. I used the higher power of the scope above to compensate for my less-than-stellar eyesight.

Service Rifle is more about you than your equipment.

A big +1.

Only competed one year, but I was beating most of the guys with the fancy space guns with my bone stock C7A1, complete with craptastic Elcan.

Having said that, I personally prefer a mil based reticle so that I don't have to touch the turrets for my elevations.

LOL... I've got a pretty good handle on how to shoot service rifle ;) I'm just considering a new scope for the PE90. For my AR15's I use an Elcan on my C7 clone and usually a Leupold MR/T or LR/T on the free floated H-bar. The Elcan is sort of high on a PE90, the 3-9xMR/T has too short an eye relief for it and the LR/T needs to stay on my long range rig. I tried to order a 2.5-8x M2 MR/T with a picket post reticle from the Leupold Custom shop but they will not ship to Canada any more. I'm still inclined to get a 2.5-8x M2 MR/T but the only choices seem to be the Milldot or TMR, I'm not keen on either for service rifle because I find them a bit fine for the faster shooting stages. Just kicking around options right now. Might even try my IOR 6x42 on it, the eye relief looks to be about right and the reticle looks good, just seems a bit big a scope and I'm not sure that I'd like the fixed 6 for the run downs. It is really hard to beat the Elcan, just don't like to keep changing it from one rifle to another and it is a bit high on the PE90.

Are you shooting tomorrow Andy? I'll bring my PE-90 to the match if you like. The Nightforce 2.5x10 is the Sh!t.
The PE-90 wears the NP-R2 reticle, and the Colt wears the Mildot

Sorry, I didn't mean for my post to sound so ...... whatever it sounded like.

I really just meant that the scope plays a very little part, and hence reticle choice is simply not critical. Price and weight would easily be as important a criteria.

Now....a scope that is easy to adjust, and KEEPS its adjustment....now there's a good thing!!

:sniper:

You do just fine with the Elcan so I'm not sure why you'd want to change.Sometimes I just don't understand trying to fix something that ain't broke.

It's an illness  Don't worry, I'm sticking to the Elcan on the AR... I'm in the market for a scope for the PE90. The PE90 might get used for a range of shooting due to that fact that it is none restricted. That and I have to buy something gun related dam it... it's been too long ;)

Just had a look through the Nightforce 2.5-10 today and an Acog of some sort with the red chevron. Both where nice but I'm still leaning towards an MR/T.
