What Rifle Are You Using for the 2013 Hunting Season

This year, the #1 rifle will be my Merkel double in .450-400 Nitro Express. The #2 rifle (Rem 700 SSDM in 30-06) will see more use given the amount of plainsgame on license, but the Merkel will be going through the paces on the primary quarry: lion, lioness, buffalo, elephant, and a couple giraffe for good measure. It promises to be quite the hunt!

Just 71 more sleeps until boarding the plane ... not that I'm counting ... :D

So far has been a .270win kinda first half of the year, Now winters set in it seems the .300wsm is getting the grand tour.

happy happy happy

I'll probably be using my T-3 S/S in 270 WSM again this year. It's scoped with a Leupold VXII 3X9X40 and I'm shooting handloads with 130 Barnes TSX Bullets. While in the mountains and more in grizz country, I usually carry my M70 in .338, topped with an old Burris 4X Fullfield.

.270 Win in good'ol fashioned M700 - whitetail
.243 Win in good'ol fashioned M700 - whitetail back-up/coyotes
22-250 Rem in good'ol fashioned M700 - coyotes

All stock and sub-MOA. Scoped with Leupold VX-III, Vortex HS and Burris FFII - think a .257 Weatherby might show up in the mix around Xmas.

Deer...Rem 7600 in 30-06. My "yote" rifle is a Remy 700 SPS in 223. Or if Im hunting yotes or bear on my brothers farm, Im using my Savage 10 FCP-K in 308. Turkey is my Rem 870.

I have a highly customized No. 4 Lee Enfield that shoots nickel sized groups with my handloads, and the 150 gr. Hornday are more that adequate for the local deer. My back-up is my tried and true heavy barrel Ruger M77 in .308. I have that one shooting dime sized groups with 165 gr. Sierra Game Kings. If I'm pushing or walking, I carry a 20 ga. with sabot slugs, and that thing hits like a freight train.

Tikka T3 in 260 Rem or 270 win for whitetail. Ruger m77 in 300WM for Elk. For small game Benelli pump in 12 gauge.
He'll I might even shoot an animal with my Pro Hunter this year.
