Kinda wondering if there is anything produced on the continent that is of comparable or better quality? I never had 1022 so there is nothing to compare with, I have mossy 152K and savage64. Savage cicle perfectly but lacks desired accuracy, or maybe I am just too picky. Mossy doesn't cicle all brands but shoots close to 1.5" @ 100m on a good day. Both I bought well used, wondering if I buy something brand new what would I go for? Call me naiive but I do prefer things produced locally, or at least in Americas. I would also like to have after market tuning and customizing ability like 1022 owners do. Please do not tell me there is nothing like 1022...

There are some Remington 597 aftermarkets creeping in, but sorry.... there is nothing like a 10/22 when it comes to tuning and aftermarket parts.

Gotta agree with the other posters.
In the past ive had a Marlin 795 and a remington 552.
Both awesome guns. I found the marlin had way too heavy a trigger.
The 552 was great on its own. Yes they are both more accurate but the 10/22 is more fun.
This year i bought a 10/22 that was already pre-tuned for a steel by the way.
I wasnt into them before but the one i found was so nice i had to get it.
I always found them a little ugly to but the International model is an exception
Truly excelent rifles. Never any feed problems. Plus the high cap mags are fun for plinking.
I suppose what i really like is when using 10 round mags. The magazine doesnt stick out of the stock like other clips mags do. Also they take down for cleaning so easily.
Again yes there are more accurate ones out there, but its good enough for my needs
If you dont want a rifle to customize and make your own dont buy one. The 795 is just fine.
Heres mine.
VQ hammer, sear, extractor
Bolt buffer, Kwik site see through mounts
williams fire sites, Choate hand guard,
Bushnell banner 1.5-4 scope. Also recrowned the barrel with a brass screw
I now have a rifle exactly the way i want it.
Nothing wrong with the others but once you shoot a 10/22 you will know why we all have them. I was skeptical at first too. If you are like me you can luck out and get an already tuned one here on the forum.

A Volquartsen, but it cost's a pretty penny. Your looking at upwards of $1200.

For the price, nothing beats the Ruger 10/22.

I prefer ANYTHING to the 10/22...seriously. Out of the box accuracy is poor, lacking featueres which should be on every rimfire (and is on most) like last-shot hold-open.

There is a REASON there is such a huge aftermarket for the 10/22...it's the only gun that need that many parts to be brought up to the level of performance of even the cheaper guns. I just cant figure it out.... Ruger has managed to take the Hyundai Pony of the rimfire world and made it sell like a honda Civic.

My suggestions for a semi are the buckmark carbine and the TC.

I don't get it! I want to be a 10/22 lemming like everyone else....but my logical side keeps getting in the way! PLEASE explain to me why you think the 10/22 is the best semi. (And please don't use the "huge aftermarket" reason...If I wanted to spend 1000k for a .22 that would shoot, I'd buy a custom kimber)

I don't get the 1022 lust either. I had one for a couple of years and never turned my crank. Not much on accuracy and the trigger was awful. I went and bought a 9422 lever and I love it. Lately I've been shooting target grade 22's and its a blast. One day I hope to have an Anschutz, but that is another topic all together.

I like the Browning BuckMark's, and the Remington's myself! I may still get a 1022 to deck out with a krinker plinker kit...but it sure is alot of money that I don't have to spend!! There are guns that shoot great, and guns that just look great with alot of aftermarket parts, and the 1022 is sure pertty with a krinker plinker kit!!

Why spend all that money tuning something up (when it's not any good out of the box) when you can spend money on a good gun out of the box.
Buy a Browning (BAR, BLR or Buckmark) or a Marlin.
Buy a gun that will give you some resale value, why buy a K car.

i've got to go with the 10/22.all the ones i shot(3) were very reliable.they are not the most accurate nor have the best trigger pull but they beat the 64b hands down.they are small and light, easy to point and shoot and if you want to go crazy with upgrades then at least you can find them easily.there is nothing more frustrating than clearing jams and with the 10/22 they rarely occur.

I am with Wrong Way and Goody. My first firearm was a 10-22 and it sucks big time. for the money that people put into tuning and modification, you can almost buy a hot black and green sniper rifle chambered in 223 or 308.

I really like the customization of the 10/22. The ability to make it exactly the way you want it, something you may not be able to buy in a factory configuration. It may cost more in the long run, but i'm happy with mine! :D

I understand the Winchester model 63 is/was considered the best semi-auto rimfire ever designed. I have a Taurus reproduction, and I can see why.

Well I've owned custom shop Kimbers, and I still like the 10/22. :) Ergonomically, excellent for me, rotary mags are revolutionary and extremely reliable, gun itself is one of the most reliable semis in my experience and swallows the majority of ammo, extremely durable, extremely easy to work on (there's not one part I can't replace easily myself). I also find them accurate, especially the new RR and compact models without the barrel band. And really, who the heck needs a last shot hold open on a .22? More to go wrong.
