OPP carry Sigs and RCMP carry S&W 40's for the men and 9's for the ladies (if they prefer)

Not quite correct. RCMP 'standard issue' is the S&W 5946 (9 mm double stack DAO). The 'substitute standard' is the S&W 3913 (9 mm single stack DAO).

The 9mm single stack S&W 3913 from what I know is issued to folks who have trouble holding and shooting the slightly larger 5946. I know a few plain clothes folks that carry it for concealability as well...

Edmonton Police (EPS) uniformed officers are issued Glock 22 pistols chambered in .40 S&W. I'd be interested to hear whether the Detectives or anyone else get compacts to use.

Jeff/1911.

Regina Police are issued Glock 22s chambered for .40S&W. The runner up was Sig P226 I believe but it was passed over due to price. I also heard a rumor that Glock offered a buy-back program for all the old .38s, could be BS though.

9x19mm is RCMP standard, for regional forces in BC (Vancouver, Delta, West Van, etc.) the .40 is standard

the clunk the RCMP use isn't that bad actually. I know more than a few officers who would easily be Masters in IPSC with theirs. out of a level III holster in .96 with .18 splits on El Presidente, all A's. I've personally fired numerous different ones, including a bunch the Sheriffs use (ex RCMP Aux. guns), and they are also decent. Once broken in, the triggers aren't too bad. The only real change I'd do would be to remove the rear site to yank out the mag safety setup. stupid idea that it is.

Halifax Regional use SIG P226 (DAO I seem to remember?)

I've been told that the section on semi automatic sidearms in the police act in Nova Scotia doesn't say "SIG"s specifically, but if you read it close enough, that's the only option available for NS forces and NS based armed security.

(remembering that Brinks, Securicor, (both still with S&W revolvers) RCMP (S&W) and Fisheries (S&W) are federal)

I know the Glock reps are pretty pissed.

Hey so I made a mistake.... I know that when I was shooting at depot the 2 ladies that were competing were using a service piece and it was a nine. The guy next to me was using a 40 but it probably wasn't a service piece or he wasn't RCMP.. But now I remember a conversation with one of the armourers out there and they all use a nine.. It's got a pretty picture on the slide....They work on 40's for somebody but I don't remember who..

Remember folks I have a lousy memory.. It could be Barrie that lets the ladies carry a 9 and the guys have the 40...

OK who massed up my poll? :( I see the S&W is now in, but what the hall happaned to the votes? I know the last time I looked Beretta had at least 3 (not that it matters who had what but WTF?)

Massed up?

Or Messed up?

I see 5 votes for Berretta, however you poll really is meaningless as you could have 100 people from Ottawa vote for Glock while it is only one dept.

Secondly Delta BC's ERT uses .45 IIRC

a minute ago there was 0 votes...but now there's a water gun in there too, I wonder who uses those; kindergarten cops? :p

Massed up?

Or Messed up?
yea sure...so the "SuperGrammatonClericator" it true lol

however you poll really is meaningless
correction your poll :D

not sure what they`re using now, but I remember the Aylmer (now Gatineau) police had 10mm glocks when I was finishing high school. I won`t tell you how long ago that was I`m still trying to finish university :p

the RCMP pistol is not that bad to shoot, but I still don't get the mag release safety......can anyone explain why they have this feature..??
