This may have been asked before - if so forgive me - but I can't find reference to the topic. What would the right approach if you're out hunting and come to the top of a ridge to start glassing using binos of course and you see another hunter on the opposite slope maybe 600 meters away using the scope on his rifle to glass you. What is the right approach at that point? I want to behave semi civilized but at the same time I definately would somehow like to give him the message that such behavior is in very bad taste and extremely dangerous especially to me.

Well first you have to Hope he doesn't pull the trigger......:(
if you're still alive afterwards you climb over to the next Ridge and Kick him right in the Nutz:dancingbanana:

If somebody is pointing a rifle at you, he/she is threatening your life. Respond accordingly.

Edited to add: this statement in no way implies that you should shoot back, just that your life is in danger.

I had one prick point his rifle at me as he was using his rifle scope as a spotter. I caught his attention and then walked over the 200 yards or so to him and asked to see his rifle. Once I had it in my hands I pulled back the bolt and ejected the live round he had chambered. I then chucked the rifle into the 100 foot deep ravine we were standing beside.

I can not STAND a hunter in the field using his rifle scope to glass for animals!!! If you can buy a $400+ rifle with scope, you can surely buy a cheap pair of binos for $60 bucks!
I seen a couple of young hunters scoping me out that were no more then 50yds away!!! I walked over, grabbed there rifles and took the bolts out. I then walked away. They were so dumb founded they just stood there! Still have those 2 bolts in my car!!!

wondering when i could get my bolt back? my buddy wants his to.

I would go up to him and tell him i was there, ask him what he was thinking/doing, and if he saw me. I would not take a bolt, as that can just escalate the situation. I wouldnt fire at him, that would mean I was the first one who fire the shot.

I would also try to get the guy(s) plate number, and phone the police.

I would jump up and down and let him know I am human but if can't see I am human from all the orange I would be wearing, then I dunno

First, I would want to be sure that in fact he is just curious and not believeing that I'm some games. If I had any doubts about him having recognized me as a hunter, I would be very careful and fire a shot in a save direction to wake him up.

No matter what, I would walk to him and let him know that it is a criminal offense to point a firearm at any one and the next time he does it, someone might not so accommodating.

As a matter of interest, I have seen some hunters in certain parts of Canada do this on a regular basis - won't name the geographical areas but having hunted in Quebec for many years, I must admit that I have never seen it there.

Know what you mean  .

I had a f**k$#% ass Hole spotting me with his rifle while I was in my stand deer hunting, come on, you won't shoot a deer in a tree, wake up  . I wasn't able to reach the guy but I knew he was hunting the same piece of land where I was hunting so I confronted the land owner to explain to him the dangerous way his guest was using his scope to scan for game.

It turned out that it was his long time friend and for complaining about it, he revoked my permission to hunt on his land  some people are low life, really, uneducated and/or just plain dumb ass :runaway: .

Just what exactly do you mean by "respond accordingly". You really need to clarify this one.

That's one of the classic signs of the typical dudehunter, no binoculars. Should be a law against it IMO.

I rarely carry bino's. I don't use my scope either.

So #### You.

your life may end within seconds if buddy pulls the trigger. hit the ground and/or shoot a tree or something and hope that he doesnt start firing.

the next question....

if someone does indeed fire at you and hits you, would you try to kill the sob if you are able to or call 911 and let them deal with it?

No one should ever use a scoped rifle to look at the surrounding area. One of my hunting partners did this once because he forgot his binos and it almost came to fists right there in the bush.

If anyone points a rifle a me or anyone else in the area and I see it, they had better be ready for a very serious confrontation. And if I get shot at and not killed, the shooter had better be ready for return fire.

I hate it when people do this . But it seems to happen quite a bit, some people will never learn
