For those that have the whizzy, short barrelled, slug shooting 12ga shotguns, what do you use them for? I may eventually end up with one, but I fear it would do a lot of sitting and not much shooting due to a lack of activities for it. To avoid that, help me out with some tips for games to play with one.

Thanks,
Mark

i shoot mine at the range, and at trap ranges, and its my main carry gun in the bush while hiking or fishing.

While working on mine as we speak, I use my shorty shotty (18.5) for range plinking, hand thrown clays in a sand pit, hunting (Slugs only) and very soon some "tactical drills" such as transitions, move and shoot and the like.

If you can't do all this with your tactical shotgun, you've overspecialized the weapon and it will indeed spend most of the time locked away.

I was actually thinking just a boring, standard 870 Police or similar, with a conventional synthetic stock is all I want. I was just wondering what people used them for. What kind of range shooting? Paper targets with slugs? Buckshot?

Draggin, that must be quite a sight on a trap line!:D I can see a shorty 12ga as a good bush gun.

I will (hopefully) be using mine this weekend for some rabbit hunting.

If you got one and are afraid of it you can always just toss another less tacitcal more practical barrel on it and you got a whole knew gun.

Fair point. I am not worried about being scared of it, though. I have shot thousands of rounds at trap and bird hunting, so I am aquainted with 12ga guns. Just don't want to end up with an unused gun in the safe.

ive went after deer, grouse, rabbit, coyote, and ducks with my grizz 870. I love that compact little hand canon when tromping through the thick bush.

It is also the most used firearm when i take buddies out shooting in the gravel pits. Big bang, big muzzle flash and big holes!

"Tacticool" shotgun's are purpose built hand crafted end user minded weapon's.

if you end up with a safe queen then your eye's where bigger then your appetite because most (but not all!!) start off with a wood stock and come with a red plad hat with earflap's somewhere in the box.

you stick on a pistol grip and folder to make it easier to handle/pack and a little lighter, a mag tube extension because more ammo is always fun rite?, an optic/ring's/sight's because you cant hit the broad side of a barn with buckshot from 20 paces AND after all this you have whats referd to as "tactical"...

the short answer to the original question of "what do you shoot with a tactical shotgun" is anything you intend to hit... multiple times... from various distances... with a half a pound of lead... 1oz at a time :)

My modestly tacticool shotgun is an 870 with 20 and 14" barrels, side-saddle, light mount and Hogue stock. It isn't used very often but when called upon it is generally for something serious. It's the main predator gun at the farm and what I use for shotgun-only deer hunting and for travelling in bear country.

I will also take it out a couple times a year to shoot skeet under the lights. With the 14" barrel and Federal ammo there's lots of flame and noise. :D

Flame and Noise . . .

Admit it: whatever you shoot at, it's all about how it looks/feels shooting it . . .
My li'l DLASK 8.5" with a factory Winchester 3" Magnum Slug is a case in point. Doesn't get much better!
Bounced some tires around.

While many of you hate artist, gun enthusiast are often artist-like minded peoples. A gun is a piece of art. You can modify yours and make it unique. To me, some guns are like painting. Some peoples think that painting are useless. But they transmit emotions. I plan to buy gun that i will never shoot. Like knives, they are collectable. Some are real candy to my eye. Some buy sword and never hit anything with it. Some buy axe and never cut tree. I plan to buy a bayonnet for one of my shotgun. I don't think this bayonnet ever gonna be usefull in my life. But it express something for me : Even out of ammo, I'll keep fighting.

BTW, I really like to destroy stuff with guns. I like the feeling. Some may think it's useless, but I like the power slap, I like to trhow lead at someting, and sometimes at nothing. Just for the smell, just for the sound of a big blast that penetrate my bones, just for the feeling. This feeling belong to me, and as long your security is granted, you should not judge. Manipulating a well upgraded tacticool with precise and strong material, I like it. It's like engraved guns : art, feeling, emotion transmitters.
