Not necessarily the first rifle you killed a deer or moose with

mine was a Winchester Model 94 top eject in 30-30 Winchester, open sights. Shot my first deer with it at 30 yards about 2 weeks after I passed my Hunter Safety course.

a year later I graduated to a BSA Monarch in 7mm Rem Mag with a 3-9x40 Bushnell Buckhorn, used that for a half dozen years.

Although I used a few other rifles, the first one that was really "mone" as in I bought it brand new etc is a Ruger 77 MkII 7RM stainless. I used it on alot of deer, bear and moose. And coyotes, wolves and grouse, too.

My first was my dad's rem 870 with the deer barrel, not rifled or anything fancy.
I used it for a year or 2... Then someone lent me a
Winchester Model 94 top eject in 30-30 Winchester, open sights
which I used for another year or 2. and I never shot a deer with either of them (never even shot AT a deer with those 2, just kept seeing does)

Then I woke up one day and got me a Rem 7600 in .308 and have killed deer every year since i've got it (except 1 year). It's turning 7 years old this year and things are looking good. :D

Mine was some old sporterized mauser in 30.06 that I got from a guy in Lynden Wash. In the good old days when you could buy guns from the states. Turned out to be a POS but you gotta start somewhere.

Winchester Model 670A in 30-06 with a 4X Weaver Challenger scope in Weaver rings and bases. Shot my first deer with it in '88......I was 30...started hunting late... :?

Mine was a BSA in .243. It was my dad's, and the first rifle I carried hunting. Also my first deer was taken with it. I got it after he died and used it for a few years.

I wanted to get a bigger caliber as an all 'round rifle for deer, bear, moose, & elk. (Mostly the first two) Being young with a wife and 2 kids, the only way was to trade the BSA. I swapped a friend for a Savage in .270, and right away started hating myself for it. I made a deal with him that he wouldn't sell or trade it without giving me dibs. I thought about that gun all the time, paranoid he'd need to sell it and I wouldn't be able come up with the cash! :( I doubt it ever would have happened, my friend knew what the rifle meant to me. I'd ask to 'visit' her whenever we were over for dinner!

About 4 years later I was able to buy it back, and swore it would never leave my posession again! Still use it almost every year for local blacktails.

Moral: Never sell your first gun, you'll regret it!
