What was your first big game rifle?

My father had alot of guns, so I was fortunate to be able to use them, I use a mod.94 30-30 for my first deer, and a Berreta silver pigeon for birds.
The first rifle I purchased was a rem7400 in 30-06, I used that for 15 years with no problems, I recently purchased a BAR in 30-06, and was given all of my dads guns because he doesn't hunt anymore

My first rifle was a Winchester model 100 in 308 nice gun but I
traded it in when I ordered my Remington 700 BDL

Tikka 55 in 308win with 4x redfield scope. I miss it. Excellent gun, scope, cartridge. None of them ever malfunctioned or let me down in any way.

My first rifle was a used/excellent Remington BDL .308 Win with a Leupold M8 fixed 4x scope. Had it for a lot of years and then we parted company about 5 years ago or so. By a twist of fate, a couple of years ago, a friend was very interested in a Browning A-bolt stainless stalker .308 that I had just picked up in a 'deal'. He asked if I wanted to 'trade' for a 'custom' Remington 700 in .308 that he had. We made the trade & the serial number of his Rem 700 looked eerily familiar... Turned out it was my original Rem 700 that had been reworked somewhat...

She's is most certainly a 'keeper' now. I added a brand new matte Leupold VariX-II 3-9x40mm in commemoration of her 'homecoming'. 8)

pre-64 model 94 in 32 special

Me too. Still have it. It was my first "brush gun." Beat to heck, missing the rear sight elevator. I've got a letter some where that claims its circa-1920's Migth restore it one day, for sentimental value. It was passed down to my father-in-law from his grandfather.

Mine was a Savage 116 "Package Series" in 7mm Remington Magnum.

I only got into hunting a few years ago, and knew little about hunting rifles, cartridges, the value of good optics, etc.

I also was unsure if I'd like this whole hunting thing  so I didn't want to lay out a bunch of cash all at once. I think I paid around $600 for the package, plus a couple of boxes of ammo.

Used it for a couple of seasons, took some deer, and then sold it and bought my current 700 Mtn Rifle in 30-06.

My first big game rifle was also my first rifle: a Model 94 in 30-30. Still have that rifle as well as my father's Model 94 in .32 Special. Those are two rifles that will never be sold to anyone.

My grandfathers Rem 721 in 300H&H. Shot my first deer and bear with it 30 some years ago when I was 11 or 12. Still have it, I switched the stock over to a BDL with hinged floorplate some years ago as the original stock was a little ugly after I did my first 'checkering' job  with an old dull Herters checkering tool I found somewhere just after my gramps gave it to me on my 10th birthday. Been wrecking guns ever since.

My 1st gun was a 12g Win. pump as I was too young to hunt deer(Chatham New Brunswick).
My 1st rifle was a Swedish Mauser mod.38,6.5x55 imported by Century International that I bought just prior to my Father being posted to CFB Comox.I as a young lad(16 yrs old) researched deer rifles for youngsters, and found nothing on .303Brit. Which was one of my choices, then I found a dealer in Newcastle,N.B. who had a 6.5x55
Being of small stature I wanted to avoid a rifle that had alot of kick :!: So that I would'nt produce any bad habits, with the 12g pump I easily fixed that by shooting only Canadian Tire shotgun shells, and later started to reload shotty shells.

Huntsman

Sako AIII manlicher stock 30.06. I call it 'the spinal tap' because all the animals I shot with it were all in the spine.
