What Was your first deer shot with?

It was the front of my first truck, 78 ford 1/2 ton two wheel drive, killed it dead, both the truck and the deer

My brothers Excalibur crossbow in his tree stand. My very first hunt only took 15 minutes until I harvested a deer. Boy did I think hunting was easy. Beginners luck because it has gotten a lot harder since.

A friend's Remington 700 in .308. Dropped it at 90 yards, fell where it stood. That hunt only lasted 1.5 hrs on opening day. Second year took 45 min, since then it's gotten a bit tougher. Got to love beginners luck. Still borrowing the same .308 for this year.

Took 24 years of off and on hunting for my first, a spikey buck with a Rem 600 in 35Rem, scout scoped using the Win. 200grain powerpoint, that I had just acquired late the year before. 4 hours into a very wet, and about to end in ten minutes, opening morning. He galloped towards us but stopped 60 feet away where we had just been scouting for sign before we were to head out. Was tough to see, but the spikes were there and long enuff to be legal so thru the heart/lungs the slug went. Turned back toward where he came but piled up about 25 yards later. Funny how the rain and the recoil never come to mind afterwards!

First big game animal ever was an Impala in South Africa with a sporterized Lee Enfield No4MkI using 174gr PMP softs.
First Canadian whitetail was a young buck in central Alberta, also with a sporterized No4MkI using Federals 150gr loads.

Marlin 45-70. 30 yards, running shot with my beagle behind her, just below the ear. DRT. Nice little doe. That gun will never be for sale.

First moose was with my brothers Sportered Swede Mauser. About a 7 yard shot. She strolled right past me, then walked another 15 yards before flop. Same beagle behind her.

My first deer was a fall fawn muledeer with a 22 short. I had buck fever to bad and wasted my LR shells first and had to resort to the shorts I had. Times were different 40 some years ago where I grew up.
