What Was your first deer shot with?

My .58 Fraser River Hawken has killed more game and won more matches for me that any other rifle I own, but it is not as dear to me as my first .22, which Ii still have, or my father's .303 British No.4 , that was his first custom job and has killed a ton of game!:)

I tend to do the same Cat, heck we all do (horse trade). I have my assortment of rifles that I will never rid of too. One that I regret the most was my the one which I shot my very deer with, M38 Sporter Swede Mauser (posted details 3rd page). It hunted with me from '89 to '00, I made up for it by just purchasing a Tikka 6.5 Swede. This rifle will be a "keeper" as it will eventually be used to harvest my Son & Daughters 1st deer ;).
 
The first 4 deer that I harvested succumbed to a 170 gr Silvertip Flatnosed bullet that came from my Dad's old Win 94 Lever 30-30 (RIP Bud ;) )It was the start of my love of hunting and shooting!!
 
My first Mule Deer fell to a bullet from a Model 94 30-30 from around 1912. Cannot remember the make of or the weight of the bullet but the bullets were jacketed hollow points where the jacket even was in the hollow point. I would have been 11 at the time.

Actually, these stories bolster everything I have been telling people who are buying thier first deer rifle in .338WM, a .300WM, or a .300 RUM or some such thing since they are being told that they need it to take a deer down.
I actually know about a guy who bought a .300WM last year because he missed/lost a deer he shot with his .338WM. I was in the shop on a Friday Morning just after season opened this year. He brought that rifle (the .300WM) in to trade (he'd only had it a week) for a .300RUM one day from the local shop. Had it for a week!! He had shot at a deer that morning and it didn't fall down, even though he knocked it in a somersault. Obviously the .300WM is no longer large enough for deer anymore.

lol.:D I know what you mean. I'm constantly surprised that my 30.06 bullets don't bounce off these thick-skinned beasts!;)
I'm in the market for a used German 88. Good for geese as well as deer.:p
 
My first deer was shot when I was 17, It was a spike horn buck at about 50 yds. it jumped straight up and folded like a bad card hand. The rifle was ofcourse a sporter LE .303 given to me by a family friend. I still have the rifle and have restored it. I might take it out one year for old time sake and see if I can get another deer with it.

first and only deer so far was with my 12guage 870 Cantilever. Bushnell 3200 1.5-4.5x32 mounted on it shooting 2 3/4 accutips. Shot was only about 30yards. After some rotator cuff issues i've since sold the barrel and plan on movin down to a 20guage.
 
First deer was age 12. Lee Enfield 303 brit at maybe 90yards. Dad told me where to aim, so I did(at least I thought I did it right). Right behind the front legs, 1/3 of the way up. Darn bullet had a mind of its own. Got that doe right in the side of the head. When dad looked through the scope afterwards all he saw was a fuzzy sight picture and no crosshairs. LOL. After that, he always checked the scope before going hunting for the day.
 
I used a Savage 99E 300 caliber. Was 12 yrs old out with my father, spotted a young 4x4 about 80-100 yds away. The 300 had a bushnell 3x9 scope and I lined up on him with a straight on briscuit shot. Hammered him right in the engine house and he went maybe 10 yards and dropped. Also shot my first moose the next year with the same rifle, my brother shot his first deer with it also. Still have alot of love for the old girl, one day would like to buy one like it just for the great memories of hunting with the family when I was a boy.
 
I shot my first deer, a muley doe, at 110 yards with a BSA sporterized M17 in 30-06. I was 13 at the time. I can remember how excited I was, and how shaky I was while trying to line those iron sight up properly on that deer. IIRC, the ammo was old Dominion 180 grain Copper Point Expanding. Eagleye.
 
I shot my first deer/doe with a Winchester 12 gauge pump loaded with 3 inch OO Buck. My reflexes were good at 18 years old and i got off 3 shots but I think one would have sufficed. When I skinned her she had 20 or so different holes in her chest and a broken front leg. Buckshot can be very effective at close range.
 
Got my first deer this past fall. I had the date engraved on the casing.

Tikka T3 lite SS 30-06. with 168gr win ballistic silver tip. Bushnell 3200 3-9x40.
