What Was Your First Handgun and Do You Still Have It?

My first handgun is the Smith & Wesson 686-4

I bought it after moving out of my parent's house. They said "You can't have any handguns if you're living here." so I moved out and bought a handgun and an AR-15

And I don't think I'll ever sell it.

Good choice

Ruger Mk II Target with 6" bull barrel. Bought it for $200, fixed the mag release, put on thumb rest grips, and shot it for many years but I sold it last year for $275 after I bought a S&W 22A which shot just as well and is very easy to take apart and clean.

I bought my first two handguns at the same time, so I'll mention them both.

One was an Inglis made Browning High-Power. Like most military surplus guns, it showed a bit of wear and character but she still functioned perfectly and shot well. I think I paid about $200 for it, which was a fair bit of money thirty years ago and you know what they cost now. Obviously another one I should have hung onto.

The other was a US surplus 1911A1. Again, I think I paid $200 for it. Someone had made a crude attempt of refurbishing it by bluing over what was left of the parkerizing. And at some time during it's life, someone had scratched the name "MARY" in large letters on the side of the slide. I like to think some US GI or Marine had scratched his wife's, girlfriend's or sister's name on his gun to honour her. If someone reading this knows where "MARY" is today or has seen her in the past, I would love to hear about it.

Mine was nothing special....S&W M&P 40 Back when they first were released...9mm was sold out so I went with 40 S&W...didn’t realize how much more 40 cost at the time....it’s long gone, no regrets.

Mine was a CZ-75 like the one pictured here. I used it to shoot IPSC in the 90's in Edmonton.... it was a great pistol to shoot stock (now called production category) and with the 15 round capacity it was a joy to shoot.....
