What was your first rifle ever? Do you still own it?

I had three rifles given to me before I finally saved and bought one.
It was Mossberg 151M(a) 22 semi-auto.
Great little rifle! Literally thousands of gophers/starlings were slain with it.
Ended up with a bulge in the barrel, so got rid of it.
5 years ago, spotted a very nice, clean copy of the same.
Bought it for nostalgia sake ----NO regrets.

First rifle I bought was a refurb SKS at a gun show a couple weeks after my license came in the mail.

I was 11 when my grandfather passed on, though, and he left me his Tikka M65 .30-06, Mossberg 500 .410 and Browning BL-22, which were registered until my father until I got my PAL. The Browning and the Mossberg showed some signs of wear, but the Tikka is damn near mint. I guess he went small game hunting a lot more than deer hunting. ;)

A Surrey No.4 Mk1(ROF) marked with "U.S. Property"....all numbers matching and a box of surplus .303 ammo for a grand total of $18.00. That was back in the fall of 1970. That old girl has been thru many a snow storm and thru a lot of woods since then. She's old and scarred but she has her place in a vault that is reserved for my favorites.

Winchester 1895 in .303 brit. Still have it and I'm slowly working on fixing it up. It's pretty rough with an extremely pitted bore but still shoots 2" groups at 100m wth irons.

Ruger 10/22. Sprung for the fancy Deluxe Sporter model... in it's current configuration, that was clearly a waste of money . I still have all the parts to make her original again (but I don't know why I would: bang up that beautiful original wood stock in the field to watch the factory barrel 'pattern' the .22s... No thanks, the synthetic stock coupled with a Dlask barrel is much nicer )

My first rifle was a 22 coey bolt action.

Paid 10 bucks for it.
Paid for by catching chickens when I was a kid.

Never thought I'd eat more chicken than game at the time... but thats how it is.;)

First Rifle

Spent the money I earned from my first summer job 35 yrs ago on a Cooey, Model 600. If I had a dollor for every rd I fired out of it plinking, I'd be rich.
Was broken for a long time, but with advise from GGN members was able to fix it. Went for a trip down memory lane not long ago. She still shoots great.

the first one I bought was a M1894 Winchester in 30.30 Bought at the local Simpson Sears if I recall correctly.
I had just finished Farley Mowat's Lost in the Barrens. I still remember the part where the young lad Jamie knew he was "a man" when his uncle gave him "the powerful 30.30"
That was enough for me and my visions of the north. Sold it when I bought my first bolt action.
Now to dribble on..:p I already had a 22 from my gramps an old Cooey 75 and dad had a JC Higgens bolt 12ga so all that was covered. Still have these 2 and all my young'uns cut their teeth on the Cooey. The kinda shake their head though at the Higgens
