What would happen if SKS disappear from market in Canada (westrifle.com)

I am pretty much full up on milsurps 5 SKS only one I shoot. The others still in cosmoline, same with my 91/30s.
Id figure people migrate to cheap NR 223s and 22s.

Its the 7.62x39 ammunition that made the SKS rifle popular, not so much the other way around. If ammo wasn't so affordable only fractions of SKS rifles would have sold. People wanted rifles cheap to feed.

What would the rifle/surplus market want next? If i knew, I would take 20K or 30K and invest without telling anyone until its landed and delivered.

Well there are still lots around, a local store just brought in 250 for a grand opening,, selling for $169.99 in May,, refurb birch stock!

I figure as long as cheap x39 is to be had people would go 858s and 81s unless a cheaper semi came along. Without surplus ammo whatever lowest priced NR semi in .223.
As for .22lr you can probably count on a lot of sks owners already having something in a .22 and then went on to x39 as a next step up.

id like to see a rifle chambered in 5.45x39 so we could start soaking up all that surplus around the world. If the VZ ever came in that round i think it would sell big time

No, I meant I would be interested in any and all Chinese surplus rifles. I'd flip my lid over a shipment of Type 53's.

Agreed.

Other than that, if the SKS went the way of the Buffalo, I would not change my buying habits. I don't own one... I know, what kind of Canadian gun nut am I? But something along the lines of a CZ 858 or Type 81. I'm more into black rifles, but those are the reds that churn my butter.

I can see that if we get the ar nonrestricted , a lot of cheap Asian parts and pieces , and even whole rifles could become the "new sks" ..... assuming a cheap and ready supply of what ever ammo might function in the available uppers .

I'm betting that the cheap ammunition becomes first not so cheap then dries up long before the SKS becomes even remotely difficult to buy in this country.

It's a self balancing equation.

I'd go back to shooting all of the other stuff I have, in that case. There's more to life than clumsy blasters

We've seen unmolested SMLE's skyrocket in value, as they are much less common than "sporter" versions of the SMLE. You see dozens sporter SMLE's for everyone that has full wood and barrel. While the sporters are still pretty cheap, the original ones are not at all.

I have a feeling there are plenty of guys hoarding original SKS rifles expecting to sell them off for $1500 each in 10 years. I don't see this happening really. Unlike the SMLE's,. most SKS's that made their way into Canada are left original. Or maybe they get a plastic stock thrown on them, without any other modifications. Easy to put back to original specs. The SMLE's were chopped down to make them into better inexpensive hunting rifles, when few of those were available. But the only reason in this day and age to mod a SKS is if you feel like it. So most stay original.

tEven if they aren't coming in by the shipload anymore, I think There will be a healthy supply of original SKS rifles available in Canada for a very long time.

With so many AK47's in the world, I cannot fathom manufacturers not producing huge amounts of 7.62x39 :)

CanAmmo announced a new deal to they are doing to bring in ammo forever. :)

The ranges would be cleaner without all the steel cases littering them, same with crownland.. Maybe even less appliances dumped/shot up?

Ranges should invest in a shop floor magnet. Picks up the steel cases so easly that you wish all ammo was steel cased, especially .22LR! :)
