What would you buy?

Remington 870 Police!!!! There are a few on CGN that look minty in the $700-800 mark. Parts everywhere, smooth slick actions, hold their value pretty well. Will last a life time.

No GRS on the 870P just FYI. You'll have to buy and install yourself.

I'd pick a Magpul 870 Tactical personally.

Bought today...

870 Express Tactical Magpul.... has everything I need and is in the 870 family. Can not wait to shoot this thing. Ghost ring sights, 6+1, nice stock, smooth action.

Good choice Ryan500.

Once you get some time in with it you'll decide whether it needs upgrading or not.

excellent upgrades I recommend and use:

- S&J oversized safety
- S&J follower & mag spring
- S&J -2 round mag extension
- Timney trigger fix
- Volquartson Exact Edge extractor

Now get out there and break in your new 870 !!
 
Realy can't go to wrong with any 840 type or for that matter Mossberg 500/590 many of the Turkish shotguns are right up there with them allso . Next rung up are the autos 930 Mossbergs are my favorites and if you got the cash Benelli autos are some of the best .many others choices out there just to muddy up any clear best of the best . Try before you buy , shoulder it check for balance , you know the drill .:shotgun::shotgun::shotgun:
 
I had the Tactial Magpul as well, nice sg but wouldn't run low brass, a common problem with the newer 870s. If it won't run Winchester bulk, a chamber hone is in order. I'd also do a VQ extractor, right out of the box.

I have a Mossy 590A1 with ghost rings and generally like the gun... except for the ghost rings.

I bought the gun on the advice of certain tactical centric personalities, but have sincerely come to resent the sight recommendation.

It renders the gun almost useless for skeet shooting or any type of rabbit hunting.

Sure the sights are good for slugs if that's your game, but the barrel is not rifled so there's better for that.

I'd recommend that you forget about ghost rings, get a front bead, but make sure the receiver is drilled and tapped for a scope rail. (like the 1301) Then you can add some sort of red dot sight for slugs, or take it off and use the bead for fast movers.

My all time favorite shotgun is outside your price range and that's the 24" Beretta 1301. I recommend that you save up for a 1301 and you wont regret it.

You can't quad load the 590 but you can with the 1301... big time.
