What would you use for a dream build ?

After a little bit of middle of the night can’t sleep reading I think I’d probably go for the ANTi. Could almost buy your barrel for the price difference, .5 oz heavier and no titanium issues. I’d say defiance has a pretty good name too.

Laughing, I did the same, and came to the same conclusion.

Geeks. :p

Did some more looking at the Defiance. You're right. Lots of upsides, and it's significantly less expensive. Guaranteed headspace and extra bolts doesn't hurt either.

Got on in the works as we speak.

Kimber Montana 84L getting rebarrelled to 6.5 wby RPM, benchmark stainless #1 5R 8T
Everything you want in a lightweight gun in my eyes.
Mag will get opened up and the action ported a little to seat the bullets out further.

This is something along the lines that I would choose to have built.

Damn there was some good deals in that auction

Not sure about that. Hammer prices can be deceptive, especially at Maynard's.

Maynards' has an excessive buyer's premium (plus additional credit card fees), a lot more than any other auction that I am familiar with. These fees, plus the taxes and shipping can easily double the hammer price, depending on where you live. Maynards also charges $65. just to put a gun in a cardboard box. That is in addition to the $50. per gun for shipping. Its really bad if you buy low: A $75. (hammer price) gun will quickly turn into a $200 gun. Maynards also never lists bore condition, not even a rough estimate...so you never know what nasty surprise might be waiting for you upon bore inspection.

Depends on your definition of perfect. To me, a perfect rifle is one that is in the caliber I wanted, with a scope I wanted for a long time.

One where I take the time to know and upgrade the rifle with the aftermarket components of my choosing.

Bought my 300WM Zastava in March. Did a camo paint job on it, installed a limbsaver on it. Will install a timney and plan on getting a bedding job done. Starting to look like a dream come true: To me anyways!

Buy a used Brno model 21 in 7x57. Have an aftermarket or used commercial M98 bolt with a turned down handle professionally fitted, buy some Warnes QD rings and some good glass--and go shooting.

If you're into conventional single triggers, there's a few aftermarket options there too.

a) Action - Defiance Ruckus action
b) cartridge that is not a big magnum - 280 Ackley Improved
c) barrel ( make and contour) - International Barrels Inc Medium Hunter, 22" 1:9 twist
d) Stock ( make and style) - McMillan Hunter's Edge

I would not piece together a build, I would simply buy a good rifle from one of the better makers. That could be a Heym, Blaser, or other European manufacturer.

Agreed.

I had thought about building up a Model 7 in 7mm-08 I already had with a Manners Stock, and 21” Barrel. After doing the math it was faster, easier, and less expensive to buy a Barrett Fieldcraft so never bothered building on the Model 7. I understand that for some building their own gun is part of the fun, but that’s not me.

Probably the Lone Peak Arms Razor-Ti. But the new Defiance AnTi would get a close look first. :)

What about you? What would you use?

You know what, I’m not sure. I’m fairly content with what I have at the moment and looking forward to trying out my 788 creedmoor build shortly that I haven’t been pondering other builds for a bit. My next one would probably be boring to these premium niche build projects, play with another lever action or something.

The light titanium actions and CF barrels etc etc are pretty cool to look at, but my preference changed to a blued style, helical hammer forged barrel, rear lugs and full length stock with a decent piece of walnut (Steyr model M) and I haven’t really considered there to be something I want or need beyond that for regular hunting use.

Side note, I am doing a take down conversion to 3 lever Winchester 94’s at the moment and will need to build another stock set for one of them (bought two parts guns) so that really scratches the rifle building itch at the moment.

Here is a start .Defiance long action std bolt face crf m 70 safety Sunny Hill bottom .Pacific research or Bansner stock and a fancy wood fair weather for good measure .Big dilemma what caliber? Maybe 6.5 rpm or 280 AI. HMMM.
