Same. Wood is just so much quieter. In brushy NB your guaranteed to have twigs tugging and poking at your rifle. It makes one hell of a racket with plastic stocks.

I’ve got an itch to buy a truck / wheeler / walking gun. Something that doesn’t take too much room but works for plinking, smashing the odd coyote, bagging a deer if the opportunity presents itself or deterring a bear or moose if I end up in a bad situation. Unfortunately in New Brunswick the only caliber you can carry pretty much all year is .224 or less. I’d like something light-ish, probably in .223/5.56 (I’m set up to reload for the caliber), preferably with a wood or laminate stock, and with iron sights. I’m leaning hard towards a Gunsite Scout (if I can find one) but I’m curious what else could fit the bill.

Agreed. It’s too bad the 308 was a Cabela’s Canada exclusive model and it seems they no longer carry it.

You should feel the Buffalo Bore 45-70 on the old shoulders!! It's 4210 ft lbs of muzzle energy out of a standard lever gun!

I think the Howa 1500 mini action is great rifle. Mine has a 1:8" twist and is topped with a 3x-9x scope. It's shooting 69 grain bullets very well and it's light weight. It also came with a 10 round mag.
