Same. Wood is just so much quieter. In brushy NB your guaranteed to have twigs tugging and poking at your rifle. It makes one hell of a racket with plastic stocks.

Wow! Just called Stoeger. Iron sights for my Tikka will cost me 1000$! Might as well buy a whole new rifle. Craziness.

Is that the sights off the Arctic ranger model?
I’ve got an itch to buy a truck / wheeler / walking gun. Something that doesn’t take too much room but works for plinking, smashing the odd coyote, bagging a deer if the opportunity presents itself or deterring a bear or moose if I end up in a bad situation. Unfortunately in New Brunswick the only caliber you can carry pretty much all year is .224 or less. I’d like something light-ish, probably in .223/5.56 (I’m set up to reload for the caliber), preferably with a wood or laminate stock, and with iron sights. I’m leaning hard towards a Gunsite Scout (if I can find one) but I’m curious what else could fit the bill.
Ruger American Ranch in 5.56 with a 1x6 optic
The 308win version would be my pick for a good all around truck/bush gun
Your going to deter a bear or a moose with a 223 ?? Why cant you carry a 308 ?
A Marlin in 444 Remington.
Done and done and you can eat right up to the hole too.

New Brunswick laws. Tikka223 correct me if I’m wrong but you guys aren’t allowed to carry a rifle over .224 outside of hunting season, correct? I agree that is a terrible law and I do hope they look at changing that for you guys.
Fascinating caliber, i have tested my new Labradar with Buffalo Bore ammo 335 gr FPGC out of my Marlin. For 20 rounds i averaged 2056 fps and 3145 f/p of energy, this is serious power. JP.
