Unfortunately lost my uncle to cancer a month ago. The man was a big outdoorsman and naturally had a pretty enviable collection of firearms throughout his life. I found it interesting and incredibly sad going through his collection which was transferred to me to sell.

Luckily some family members took interest in what he had and I was able to keep some guns in the family.

Thought it would be cool to show you guys what he kept all the way to the end. Some of these will end up on the EE soon.

So many deer ended up on the dinner table as a result of this guy

Somehow managed to blow up the end of this gun's barrel, resulting in a one inch loss to the barrel length and no choke :p

Lastly this was a weird find. The ever so useless .22lr birdshot in a very fancy case.

It's unfortunate that my uncle passed. I wished he still had all of this in his cabinet. Regardless it was a pretty neat experience for me. Figured a few of you on here would fine it interesting.

Thanks for that Krashed - very interesting. Especially the 22lr birdshot. That case seems way over the top - maybe handmade by a friend?

It's simple math. We can't help but buy guns. Add 50+ years of shooting = massive collections. There is a old timer at our club who seems to bring in a new gun every probie night. Last time was a 1864 rimfire carbine, very cool. I can only imagine the collection he has at home.

I feel like some of our venerable users will be leaving behind a collection that is the firearms equivalent of King Tut's tomb...

Sorry for your loss.

I hope this thread will inspire others to make out a detailed will.
In a perfect world we would do a forensic audit of all things in our possession firearms related with approximate current value. Dated to time of writing.

Too many treasures end up in the landfill or transferred to the crown because of lack of knowledge/lack of will.

Do it! and do it now! You never know when your number is going to come up.

Absolutely. He knew that I would take care of everything but it's still a very difficult task finding an appropriate sell of cost for these guys based on age and wear and tear. In my opinion find a family member who is a gun nut and give them your collection to do with as they please.

Seeing the well kept .22 shot shells... Any chance one of those .22 rifles has been converted to a smooth bore? I'd take a peek in each barrel with a light. Just a thought.

This is something I have to think hard about, and could use suggestions. I have a nice collection or Firearms, but I am getting old, and the only other Firearms interested friend I have is older and sicker than me, so I have no one really to leave my firearms and accessories to. Any suggestions other than selling them off?

That's a tough one, my friend.
Easy for me, as my daughter has her PAL/RPAL and gets everything I've got that goes 'Bang!'.

If you don't have someone that appreciates firearms to leave them to, I could suggest gifting them to your local range or choose a very trusted friend who could sell your collection to raise money for surviving family, or the charity of your choice.
Since you mentioned that your only other close gun friend is in poor health, you could outline in your Will exactly how you want them handled.

IMO, the best idea, is to slowly sell them to gunnies that will love and respect them and spend the hell out of the dollars that hit your hands!

Take care and play safe.

If you sell them here at least they will go to shooters who want them.

Perhaps you know someone at your range who would donate/sell them at a reasonable price to those interested in starting shooting?
