Whatever happened to Baikal?????

I really miss them. I have a few now but always wanted the single shot rifle in 7.62x39. You see them used now and then but 500.00 and 600.00 dollars price tags are outrageous. I like the Sever the combo gun in .22 magnum and 20 bore. Hopefully someday they will be imported again. There are a lot more in the country than most think.

Yes they were under $200 in some places at one time.

My first shotgun my father bought me, probably at Canadian Tire 30 or so years ago. Probably had a 28 inch barrel but now sports a 20 inch cyl bore.
Never liked the orange color it came with so I stripped it and applied a few coats of lin seed oil. IMO it looks great and has sentimental value.https://i.postimg.cc/hPvbqVZw/001.jpg https://i.postimg.cc/1tTRVhPD/002.jpg

Baikal Double guns.

Strong like bull. Smart like tractor.

I recall seeing some nice Baikal custom stuff, probably with Tula chokes, when I used to watch International Skeet competitions in Edmonton. A long time ago.

well, you have to choose: Baikal or former Ukraine. I would choose Baikal. But Can Gov chose otherwise.

Not sure what happened to them, and there was an other brand name from Russia as well not sure what it was nice enough shotguns. I wanted to try trap and was looking for a over under at the time The next cheapest I could find was some thing like $1600 bucks so I picked up one from CT. nice handling shotgun. only problem I found with it was if I was using it with my own thrower after about 10 shots with no cool of time I couldn't break it open to eject and reload. had to let it cool off. Tough gun. Think I got it for less then $400 on sale.

Had a S x S and an O/U, both 12 ga. Both excellent guns!! The hammerless S X S I bought new, from a corner store that sold guns near Jane and Eglington in Torornto. $99.00; 1978.

There was somebody advertising (I think on gun nutz) that they will open up chokes for $40.00 per barrel chrome lined included. Can't remember who it was.

I sawed 3" off of S x S to get rid of the chokes (my gunsmith would not ream the chrome barrels; not too many carbide reamers back in the day); put a ray-bar front sight on it, streamlined the stock and fore-end and used it for skeet. Perfect gun for the job!!

I just bought one off the EE a few months ago. Nice little 20 gauge. I have seen a few around on there.

I had the single shot rifles in .223 and .54. The 762 x 54 was a beast. The sites on both of them were crap, and finding the correct scope mount was a pain in the arse. I really wanted to like them, but ended up getting rid of them. My dad bought me a 20 gauge for Christmas when I was 14. That was 45 years ago. I've put thousands of rounds through that, but retired it a few years ago. I've got a single shot 12 gauge, looked brand new when I bought it last year for 150 bucks. It's my beater gun that I throw in the bottom of the canoe and stuff. Tell you what, when Baikal says the choke is full, they ain't kidding. It will shoot the pecker off a mosquito.

My Baikal MP-221, 45-70, seems well made, in the Russian "calculated crudity" sort of way. So far it has gone bang every time I have had it out. It's great fun to shoot, and I will likely not get to Africa any time soon. Not a gun for the elitist safari crowd, but a serviceable unit, nonetheless.
