What's a good affordable must have pump shotgun? Alien defese/general purpose

LE agencies conducted much research on appropriate SG loads and had the operational field experience to back it up. The reason many went with the reduced recoil 8 pellet 00 buck was that it combined decent terminal ballistics, met the FBI’s penetration standards, had tighter patterns and eliminated the 9th pellet flier. It is probably the best compromise for a close quarters all round SG round.

The Federal flight control reduced recoil 8 pellet law enforcement round is one of the better ones on the market. Hornady has a similar version but it is hotter and runs a few hundred fps faster. Whatever you land on make sure you pattern it for various distances in your SG.

It is true that the FBI also had an approved #4 buck load but i’m not sure if it was ever used by agents in a lethal force encounter. The issue with sending that many pellets down range is the ethical and legal accountability for errant pellets (potential to hit innocents).

Where police needed greater range or additional penetration to counter suspects using vehicles, doors, etc as cover, many agencies gave their officers the option of slugs.
We are talking defence most likely inside a house and probably within 10 yards so truthfully any size of buckshot would work

RE: 4 buck. It seems the stuff never penetrated that much if at all into the butt's at the range. I recall they mostly went about 2 - 3" into the wet coarse sand there. However sand having great stopping power, is a poor stand in for the vitals of a mostly water target lol.

First impressions I am really happy. It feels solid, pump action is solid, doesn't feel rattly. The finish color is nice to, nice to have something different than black or silver/gray (or wood).

I was aiming up the shotgun to test the bead sight and it's not that bad
I think you going to need a taller front bead.
Factory bead is so low they "usually" hit high.
Try some slugs, likely need one like this.

Yeah haha.... the bead was bad to use, I already got a picatinny rail and put my red dot on it, I'm going to try this weekend.

Just waiting on my picatinny mounted shell holder and it's complete. I will post a new thread under "Black and green shotgun" sections of it after I've went

Sight looks like a trailer hitch. LOL; no good for hunting; hide a deer behind that one.
I had one on a shockwave I briefly owned, made point of impact same as point if aim.
I'm not sure why it wouldn't be good for hunting, there's a reason various bead sizes and heights are made, correcting POI being one.

Nice color. I have a similar SXP Defender in black back in 2018. And I accidentally saw a 28" barrel for under $200 back then. I shot under 200 rds trap loads and it was nice. Just watch out for scratches specifically on the receiver. I installed a side saddle/shell holder, a Tacstar Side Saddle for Winchester 1200/1300 and it fits perfect. One bolt and nut to install/remove, off/on with the pin and you have the original setup.

Enjoy

I was aiming up the shotgun to test the bead sight and it's not that bad as I thought because the receiver has grooved lines along with the screws to mount optic, I can almost use one of those screws and grooves as a rear sight so to say and align it with my front bead consistently. Can't wait to try it out in practise and see how well it does.

For my ammo I got 175rnds of Challenger low recoil target slugs for range fun, 25rnds of Challenger coyote buckshot #4 for alien/small animal defense and 10rnds Federal premium truball deep penetrator slugs for bear defense.
