what's a large flat shooting calibre?

What Barnes needs to do is come out with a TTSX in .375, about 250 gr

This would be a great north american 375 bullet, and (presumably) would have a good BC and good velocity for longer shots

My bullet of choice for hunting and the one I am going to be using for defense until I can find something heavier in my project 375RUM are 300gr Swift A-Frames.

Whats the BC for the 300gr Accubond?

It's only .485, not much better than the 260gr at .473...300gr Sierra is about .475 to .480.

i run 300gr tsx in my 378 @3050fps and got some custom bonded 400gr for when the eaw swing mounts take the scope off and i go open sights

Ya, I saw that...kind of a bummer as the smaller bullet will perform better. The higher SD would be a good trade off though.

Same thing with the 338/250 NAB. The 225 is better on all fronts (except SD). I suspect this has to do with making the bullet work with standard twist rates.
I had hopes for a high BC bullet for my new 338 Edge rifles.

Oh man some of you guys are going to like this info...

I just recieved the following email back from Barnes in regards to their .375" 350gr TSX bullets... :D

January works for me just wish I would have asked what the BC was.

Ok sent another email...

Hi Camp Cook,

We won't offer the .375 cal 350gr TSX as a stock item until January 2010.
Please try back then.

Thanks, Ty

We Aim to please, reloading is a great hobby, enjoy it.

Those 350 gr bullets will sure be long. First becasue there is no lead or tungsten core in a TSX and secondly because TSX are normally spitzers, unless they make an exception in this case. I have a box of Barnes 300 gr Banded Solids, and even with a flat nose and parallel sides they are long.

For me these would be for defense only but who knows if the BC is high and they are accurate they maybe the ultimate bullet for my 375RUM project rifle.

If velocity wasn't a major issue I'm thinking these should be able to be seated deep enough to work out of the longer RUM cases

I wonder if they would be any better in a defense situation on a bear than a 300gr TSX or even a 270gr TSX. I bet they will all open up an punch right on through any bear.

As I said before, it would be nice to have a 250gr TTSX- Would also punch right on through but have a decent BC and pretty damn good velocity, too.

Most rifles suggested are medium bores (just making a point)!

What you need is a rifle that you can get good with (read sensible recoil) without going broke. There is a terrible disease (Magnumitis Biggerbetterus) that causes many shooters to fear and loath their rifles. Symptoms include uncontrolled neuro-muscular reaction (flinchus triggeris) and degraded hearing.

My concern is whether or not the long bullet would stabilize in a standard 1:12 twist barrel. The 380 gr Rhino shoot well, but they are lead cored and flat nosed. A mono metal spitzer would be much longer, but perhaps Barnes intend to make them with parallel sides and a flat nose along similar lines to their solids.

I haven't looked at the twist rate of my 375RUM barrel I had heard it is either 1 - 10" or 1 - 12" guess I should check it.

Here's Ty's response to my BC email that I sent last night...

The preliminary BC value is .408.

Thanks, Ty

Not a very high # actually very disappointing good thing I'm not a TSX fan guess I'll stick with my 300gr A-Frames/Partitions/Gamekings.

GH your 250gr TTSX does have merit.

After watching reading your workings with the super heavyweights I had the foresight to have a 10" twist installed on my 375 Ultra project....Looks like it might come in handy!

I have learned a lot around here over the years. :D :D

Camp,
The Rem factory 375 Ultra twist is 12"
