Looking for a 22 lr pistol of a balance between quality and budget. However something that is also going to be quite accurate as this will be a first pistol to establish good shooting practice (marksmanship) as well as cheap ammo.

In just my honest style and opinion I just don't find the 22s that look like a buckmark that appealing. I like the look of a full slide covering of the barrel as a pose to the exposed barrel. Idk I doubt the look will grow on me.

Perhaps a beretta style and I do like the 1911 look aswell. Looking for something $400-600 Not against revolvers either. They're kinda cool. Any and all suggestions will be looked at. Thanks

Browning Buckmark or, better yet, an older Belgian-made Challenger or Nomad. A used Colt Woodsman would also be a good choice. If you can stretch your budget, get a used S&W 41. You'll never want another .22 pistol.

I'd stay away from the likes of GSG 1911, Sig Mosquito and other pot metal guns.

you forgot the Ruger, I absolutely prefer the MkII in stainless with 5.5" bull barrel

I didn't like the looks of Buckmark either. Then my wife bought a buckmark contour. I fell in love with the feel and how it shoots. I quickly bought myself a buckmark hunter and like it even more than the contour. So, I suggest going to your local firearms retailer and holding different styles of pistols. You may be surprised by what you end up liking.

I just picked up the Smith & Wesson SW22 Victory. Check out the reviews and feedback...you get a heck of a lot for the money. I've brought it to the range twice so far...and had loads of fun, especially with the low cost ammo!

I recently got a single shot Drulov 70 target pistol on a trade for a couple hundred bucks and I really like it! I had a Ruger 22/45 but hated it with the plastic frame.. I think I wouldnt mind the gun if it was all steel.

OP you are asking about a quality cheap pistol. In my book and especially when it comes to handguns, quality and cheap don't go together. If you want quality, fork the money and buy a Smith 41. Buy once, cry once.

I would ask you first what do you want to shoot? About month ago I was asking the same question myself - what to buy as a good starter for 500-700CAD? The answer depends on what do you want to shoot. If like me you are interested in BullsEye - forget the 1911. Good starters would be Buckmark or Ruger. Just to take feel of it. If you go further - you would need good sporting pistol - Hammerli, Pardini, etc. So, I would say - don't spend 1500 on a S&W 41 in that case. If you don't want to go into sports and count points - may be S&W 41 - buy once and shoot for the rest of you life, as somebody said above - you won't need another pistol...

Just my 5cents here. For myself I end up with Browning since I liked how it looks (special target edition with heavier barrel, not ones you usually see in the stores). But I would probably advice Ruger MK 3. My club has couple for newbies who doesn't own handgun and I loved them a lot.

In that price range nothing will stack up to a good condition S&W 17, though that'll put you near the top of your budget.

My suggestion would be a Ruger semi with a bull barrel . I have had a Mark 2 for years....a very good gun ,at a good price....and very accurate with the 5 and a half inch bull barrel .

Hey now and im no expert however the sig 1911 with the performance upgrade i was shooing at 25 yards center mass in a fist size
to me thats accurate

If you can get a deal on a stainless Ruger, you can sell it for the purchase price later on, so money for nothing and your pistol for free.
Lots of pistols would be good choices.

For what you're asking/saying...M&P22 seems to fill the bill. I don't have one (but do have M&P 9 and 40), it seems to meet your requirements and price point new or used.

SW22 Victory, Ruger MKII Stainless bull barrel, Ruger Single Six Convertible, S&W 34-1 Kit Gun, Sig P226 conversion, Colt 22 conversion (the real one).
