What's better than a 10/22?

If you don't want to tinker, I'd buy one of the 10/22 variants. VQ as was suggested or a Magnum Research. Just the aftermarket magazine selection make the 10/22 worth having.

+1 i love mine too. I won it at a 3 gun match. if you're intereted it's for sale you can send me a pm. I'm not in a hurry to sell it, as it is a good shooter, but i already have 4 .22's. while you can never have enough rimfires i'm kinda thinking i may be getting close lol.

I agree with the above...
However, IMHO... the stock 10/22 is very accurate that that its accuracy is more dependent on the user.
Personally, I've used both guns a great deal... And I would still recommend considering the 10/22. At the end of the day, though... The Marlin 795 is normally ~$20-30 cheaper... And it's mags are generally a couple bucks cheaper (though not always).
It's all preference though. My one big issue with the Marlins though, is the mags stick out... Meh. I guess its not that big of issue, and some even prefer it (easier to remove).

I love mine to. But be careful. Use only standard and subsonic loads. I've read a few thread about people using hyper load and breaking bolt handles. I use winchester 40gr hp sub and i'm very happy with it but cant say if it's better than 10 22's. Cheers

Any kind of remington ammo in my 10/22 or 597 will result in FTF and FTE. GARBAGE AMMO..Yellow Jackets to me are just horrible, the thing about them is that they are not cheap. I tired winchester 555 and found it to be sub standard as well. I now only use Blazers/stingers or Feds. Federals used to be cheap but look like they have come up in price(damn). I paid $28 dollars the other day for a brick of 500 at wally mart. The 555 was like $19.99.
.22 rifles are like new vehicles. According to some people, you won't likely even make it home unless you've bought a (fill in the blank). I have used an out-of-the-box 10/22 stainless wood stocked 10/22 for years on gophers. Other than the odd dud (chalked up to ammo), and maybe cleaning it once in a while, it has been trouble free. I also use an old Savage 6AB tube feed as a change, once in a while. A 10/22 couldn't be much simpler to clean. Mine seems to get along with any ammo. Not sure about super duper accuracy, as I shoot off hand a lot, so I couldn't blame the rifle. Warning shots are just part of a good day of gopher shooting, aren't they?
I've not experienced that... Granted, the newest stock 10/22 I've shot was purchased in 2001-2002. Still... I cannot imagine them actually being that bad.

Well....except for the T/C Benchmark (everything that a 10/22 *should* be. Right out of the box) and the Browning Buckmark rifle (the coolest semi on the planet)
Don't let the lemmings convince you otherwise: there are FAR better semis than than the 10/22 available.

Or you could just sell one and use that $ to build a 10/22 that will out shoot both the T/C and the Browning, and have a gun that's unique to your tastes. I guess there's nothing wrong with having to shoot a gun that was completely designed and assembled by someone else, just seems sort of *cough* boring *cough* er...um....like taking the easy way out.
