What's keeping you out of Service Rifle?

Big bolt guns are going to have issues keeping up in the rapids and snaps. Bigger calibers require more recoil management which most people aren't that great at.

Yeah it could be done. Richard P shot an AR in 6.5 Grendel at NSCC in 2015. Didn't do too bad with it but said the recoil recovery was not the same as an AR in .223. Be fun to try though!

Opinions on the idea of a two day intro to SR course, with day one being theory, positional shooting practice, designing a training plan and weapons handling. Day two being a run through of matches 1-12, including the shooting, scoring and running targets in the butts side of things. (CAFSAC course of fire to follow).

Knowing that the cost should be under $200 who would come to Nanaimo for the weekend this spring.

I'd be interested.

Has anyone ever seen someone run a garand in SR? That would be cool to see. 8round en blocks would make it doable. 1 moa per click elevation adjustable sights could work if you knew intermediate holds etc.

If competitions were 1 or 2 days you would get a lot more people. That's ORA (1 day) and NSCC (2 days for service, max!).

I don't see a reason for 4 relays. Go with 2. The run down at the end always has the shooters 100m from the butts. The so called waiting relay becomes a complete waste, and sure enough there is always some fng who is not ready even after he has had 30mins. Plus the 2nd man in the butts is a waste. You don't have to score right after the target comes down - put it away and wait till the end to score them all.

It would slightly increase the time between each match, maybe a minute to put down a target and get the new one, as there is only 1 guy in the butts per target. And you would have to give the new shooting relay a 5 min prep time once they walk back. But you would cut the entire time down for the competitions in half! Plus you could really kill two birds by having the butts practice at the same time as the shooter prep. Imagine concurrent activity!

All you need is more target bays. I've never seen anyone shoot besides us in 7 years at Connaught. This should be easy.

You also need shooters/butts to take more responsibility for themselves and be ready to go and take it seriously for this shorter duration.

Unfortunately some rifle teams use matches as first chance of training. Yeah i get budgets are tight, but run some dry runs the night or week before.

SR matches at Connaught last summer were all shot in 1x day, with 4x relays with almost zero downtime or delays.

Same as the BCRA. No time wasted at all with 4 relays. If you don't have a paid marker, you're either shooting, scoring, or working the butts. Two guys in the butts was nice because we took turns eating!

You volunteering to be BO for all of Charlie Range at the same time? Budget for all the additional targetry?
