What's keeping you out of Service Rifle?

The reality is if you want to get these young guys to come out and shoot it has to be a high tempo match with minimum downtime. They want to fire a lot of rounds in a short period of time. And they like matches are very dynamic not static like an old TR match.

If you want new civilians to come out, give them a training day the day before the match starts. Many civilians don't want to go out there because they have no clue what they're doing and they have nobody to teach them.

This! Apart from watching YouTube videos from south of the border, I have no way of knowing what to do. I'd love to get involved but don't know where to start.

If only there was a basic training course / range day offered by one of our experienced CF members / SR shooters here in the lower mainland or the island where fat plugs like myself can learn how to shoot various positions at distance. I'd pay to learn how not to suck when I shoot standing and kneeling. :p

Absolutely!! Know of one that exists?

Shot 9 matches this year, over 4k rifle and 2k pistol. Will be out more next year maybe around 10k rifle and 10k pistol rounds. Preparing for it from now

Wow that's awesome, thanks guys!

No worries man! Maybe I'll see you at provincials at Volks Range next May/June ish! Treemugger drug me out there one year to shoot my first match ever. Imagine that, a total noob using a borrowed rifle shooting the BC Service Conditions Provincials! It was a blast, and I didn't come in last place. Everyone helps everyone out there. Lots of top shooters there to give you pointers and advice. 2016 will be my 5th year going there in pursuit of VBulls while trying to join the 500 club.

Ohhh...I think I have a long way to go before I get there, but I'm definitely happy to get out and give it a whirl!

No need for a training course. Just read whats required on the BCRA site for ammo requirements and show up. You wont find a more friendlier bunch of guys willing to help. I took a totally green SR shooter a few years ago and he was nervous as hell. After the first match he was smiling all day! Not one person there exhibits any of the snobbish attitude you'd think from a match like this. Just come out and have fun! After the first competition you'll know what you need to improve for the next one. Been over 10 years for me and i'm still learning. Trust me you'll love it! I'll be public shaming guys to come out this year lol!

Range time is cool but man Volkes on a sunny day shooting service will take your breath away!!!

This about describes my first outing to an ORA Borden SR match. I'm working on a buddy who has shown interest in trying SR, hope to introduce him to it this season.

I'd be more than happy to put on another SR related clinic. Positional shooting is relatively easy to shoot on any length range. Perhaps I will talk to Claude out in Abbotsford if there is interest.

Opinions on the idea of a two day intro to SR course, with day one being theory, positional shooting practice, designing a training plan and weapons handling. Day two being a run through of matches 1-12, including the shooting, scoring and running targets in the butts side of things. (CAFSAC course of fire to follow).

Knowing that the cost should be under $200 who would come to Nanaimo for the weekend this spring.

I think that is a great idea and similar to the 2 day SR course that TimK runs for SR in Ontario. My one add would be perhaps a third day or time built in to allow for leisurely shooting and zeroing at each distance 100m, 200m, 300m .. 600m. Getting the correct drops for ones rifle and load, that you had time to repeat and confirm, would be a big confidence booster. Most people have very few opportunities to really see what the drops are beyond 200 on a normal range.

I would be interested but I have no clue where these things are hosted. My range is strictly a rifle behind a firing line and paper target type affair. I live in the Oshawa Ontario area.

Good, then we can join up for a trip to an ONTARIO SR training day. I believe the above posts are referring to BC.
