What's keeping you out of Service Rifle?

I had hoped to get involved with both Cowboy Action and CQB in 2015, but focused on getting the necessary firearms, so actual involvement will hopefully happen in 2016. I would definitely appreciate a clinic outing or two first though, so I know what to expect.

I'd love to check it out but most of the scheduled times always seem to be during summer fishing season and ending during sheep hunting season. If there was some events in early spring or late fall that would work better for me

I see alot of excuses here.

You can get a SR and make payments...2nd hand?

Even the guys who have SR...you hardly see some of them.
Example: Here in the west coast..home of the legendary "LONGSHOT"... we just had a first time match at the Chilliwack range...5 matches..VTAC wall to 200 yds...utlising cover and urban prone CoF...in addition to weak side transition...it was challening and hats off to Vince the Director.

Talking to some of the shooters that I never met before and they knew nothing about eg. Abbotsford ATS meets (you want to learn how to shot that bench queen AR of yours..come on down...you might have a few scrathces in that $3000 optics at the end of the day!) or the CQB series we have put on by Ryan Steacy...or Tac Rifle matches by Thompson Mountain in Pitt Meadows...or just getting out to the range.I have not mentioned the "Holy Grail" of SR..BCRA ..cause 100 mtrs to 500 mtrs.. is hard to find but I seem to get out to them.

Traveling expenses gas, hotel or ammo...stop whining and get out.
Save your beer tokens or your McDonalds Big Mac $..talk to the guys that are doing it and car pool..borrow an AR..pitch in for ammo...I dont care...but stop whining ya bunch of lady boys..I am almost 60 and know one hits the deck into an Urban prone position faster....cause I work at it =read ,study, train and hit the range and gym.
Gave up my Friday night beer $ years ago.

Shame on you girly men!

DILLIGAF, are you a work every weekend kind of guy? There are a few of us on the island working towards getting ammo at affordable rates for SR matches. I'd be happy to drive you to Nanaimo in the Spring when SR starts up again.

Yup if im not working on weekends to make ends meet, then I spend it with the family. I hardly have time to actually hit the range let alone go to matches.

Earlier this month my 66 year old father shot his first Service Rifle match since he left the Army 40 years ago. So I shoot SR, my brother shoots SR and now my dad shoots SR.

Vancouver island

Excellent. We're looking to spread our range dates around a bit. Keep your eyes peeled, we'll get you out in 2016!

DILLIGAF, same for you. (Same for me, honestly) I have weekend commitments that keep me from doing this as much as I'd like as well. I only made it to one Civvie shoot this year. When we get the schedule out, pick a weekend, and let's make it happen.

Your matches are not accommodating for anyone with a Disability.

I have seen a competitor with one hand, another with one eye, another with a missing leg, another with a fused spine and a bunch of guys who wish they were still in their 60s.

You make the points where you can, and do your best where you struggle.

Your matches are not accommodating for anyone with a Disability.

The DCRA NSCC service rifle matches held every year in Ottawa have a class called the Wounded Warrior, that allows people with disabilities, and older shooters to shoot the matches without having to do any of the running. Im not sure, but there may be exceptions for that category that also allow you to not have to get up and down for each exposure. I suggest you check out the rulebook on the DCRA website if you are interested in shooting service rifle.
