What's so great about the Magpul "China Doll" lower and why are they $$$$'s?

Anyone familiar with the "China Doll" lower from Magpul?

What's the big deal?

130 never sold, just gifts and connection reminders......very few changed hand for money and they were way more than you guys will even believe.....

I had never heard of them until you posted this. Quite interesting. Only 130 were made, and, as mentioned, none were sold; they were given as gifts to employees and "special people'. The C series (China Doll) were made in Longmont, CO. More info here: http://www.weaponscache.com/forum/rifles/1968-elusive-magpul-china-doll-lower-2.html

Dont see the "cool" factor in it....a NEA or KAC, spikes, Vltor ect. All have smoother cleaner lines and the "china doll" figure isnt really glamourous

Total exclusivity.

From what I read, Magpul could not get their insurance company to sign off (or too expensive) for them to become a full gun manufacturer, and therefore could not even sell the 130 that they made (I think they were contracted out), but got permission to give them away.

Since when does insurance company have any decision on a product like a lower AR receiver? Honestly biggest B.S story I heard.

Unobtainable?

since an insurance company has the yea or neay wether a compnay has the liability to back any lawsuites or damages caused by said product...

i am ticketed to weld polyethylene pipe including gas lines but my companies insurance agency wont allow us to weld gas line for liability reasons.

Wow...never heard of these...thanks for posting about it. With the AR15.com lower...if it was ever available I'd grab one. It's about as close to the Magpul lower as I'd ever get. Very nice looking.

That's due to downstream liabilty - there is no more or less downstream liability on lower receivers than there is on stocks, grips or magazines - or popcorn poppers for that matter. Insurance companies do not tell you what you can do or cannot do - they tell you what it will cost to be insured doing it, and then (if you own the business) you decide. If you don't purchase the insurance, you can still do the work - if you're sued the insurance company simply won't be at the table. Incidentally this type of breach generally does not affect the existing coverage, so a suit regarding an insured activity will still be insured.

Don't kid yourself. It wouldn't be the first time a product got quashed because the insurance said no. Financial institutions and insurance companies tell EVERYONE what they can do. Fact, not fiction, unfortunately.
