Can someone please tell me what makes the Swiss Arms Carbine so expensive? they don't look that well built, the metal looks like cheap tin. Compared to an AR they look like crap IMO... Please excuse my ignorance on this I guess I just need to be schooled on this carbine, cause I don't see the value in this rifle. Let me know...

Each to their own.

I have both SAN carbine and LE6920. I'm not religious about one vs the other. But cheap tin? WOW.

Have you ever actually held one? It's built like a modern tank.

Extremely accurate(inherent accuracy that is) for a production firearm. Nice two stage triggers and over built. By the time you finish tweaking an AR you've probably spent close to the retail cost of a Swiss.

I was a bit of a doubter before I bought my CQB - I can tell you it's MUCH nicer than any AR I've owned. It is very well built and feels solid in your hands.

I'm actually considering selling my pimped out 14.5" AR to buy a SA Carbine now. And I'd keep it pretty much stock.

It is expensive for the following reasons:

QC - Every gun is test fired for reliability and to ensure sights are zeroed prior to leaving factory.

Quality - While the gun may appear to be made of cheap tin to you, it is in fact made of a very hard alloy. You would have a very difficult time trying to bend or break the receiver of this gun.

Switzerland - Production costs are high there. That cost gets passed on to the consumer. FWIW take a look at Oberland Arms in Germany. A German made AR costs 50% more than a US made one. high production costs and lower production numbers make the per unit costs higher.

Ya have to shoot one! I have a CQB and I would not trade it for any AR made! It's very accurate, extremely well made and the most reliable semi I have ever shot.

Very robust. Dropping them on concrete is no problem.

So far I didn't manage to actually break one of mine.

Low temperatures are no problem either, they were made to be used in the Swiss Mountains during winter.

Come-on ... :D have you never heard of the quality of a Swiss watch? :p

All it takes is owning one.

:agree:
I want one day soon to not only own a black special but to totaly pimp it out. Just that 649 number's never match the one's I pick.

Is it really expensive? I don't think it is. I think it's a bargain.

Finish: ceramic-reinforced enamel coat called Ilaflon.

Materials: The receiver and gas system are made of steel. The barrel, bolt, bolt carrier, and firing pin are all made with steel that has been gas nitrided, hardened and tempered. The bolt and carrier, along with most other components internal to the receiver undergo a phosphating process.

Quality control: Swiss Made. Does not leave the factory untill it shoots 24 shots into 4.3"X2.8" at 330 yards with Swiss Match ammo. (7x11cm at 300m).

Reliability: AK style gas system. 30,000 round barrel life. 100,000+ rounds for all major components. I have never, ever had a FTF or a FTE, and that's in -20C to +20, with all kinds of high and low powder reloads.

All that aside, just look at what an AR setup of the same would cost you:

Standard AR-15: $1500
Gas piston system: $700
Bipod: $200
Click on sling: $50
Folding Stock: $150

=2600. Plus taxes and shipping for all the parts and your pretty close to the price of a new Swiss arms.
