It was the winterkill that eliminated so many deer. They keep selling licenses because they want the money we keep paying, and there aren't any deer to shoot so we won't make it worse.
This was the first year since 1988 that I did not hunt whitetail in Saskatchewan. I'll only return when numbers bounce back. Hopefully Old Man Winter will be kind to those little buggers this year............they need a break.
I'll repeat from a previous post, "BC is the best place to hunt, best variety of big game and the most beautiful province".

Hard for me to make a judgement call on the best province as I've only hunted B.C. and a few hunts on draw in Alberta. While B.C. apparently does have a great variety of big game species, on every trip to AB, I'm amazed at the numbers of animals seen. Primarily Deer but nonetheless, in numbers that boggle my mind.
Had a very successful retirement gift of an Antelope hunt in AB this fall with my Daughter and SIL. From what they tell me, Deer and Antelope numbers are down considerably from the numbers in years past. There've been some pretty harsh winters for the game the last few years and it's taken its toll.

Where I hunt in Alberta the numbers of whitetail have dropped by 30% every year for the past two winters. In 2012 we viewed 100 per day, the fall of 2013, 65 per day, this year 30 per day. I'm hoping for a mild winter for a change, for all prairie provinces and big game.

You & me both. Oh, a little off topic of the thread, the curl of the tips of the horns of the Antelope in your avatar looks like the one I got this year.

Mine;) is the 'cute' one in the middle.

Suppose the obvious answer is yes there is a best, yes it is BC by a long measure even over its closest competitor, and yes your own hunting is as good as anywhere's if it's what you enjoy. I've had a blast places there are only a couple huntable species. Pure breadth of habitats and species isn't the be all and end all. It's all good.

I chose BC because we have so much unspoiled terrain, large quantity's of wildlife as well as a great variety, and depending on where you are hunting you can be in almost any Canadian climate- there is so much variation. However I have only hunted in Ontario other than BC. Live in BC... will most likely never leave.
