It has never been illegal to purchase, own or use hollow point pistol ammo in Canada.
IIRC it WAS illegal for an individual to import, but I believe that has since changed.
had the same question on my RPAL test. Instructor told me ahead of time the question didn't count because it was an obsolete unenforceable law. didn't matter what I answered the question would not be counted in my score.
My guy was not so helpful. It's nice to see it has been pulled from enforcement. Just one tiny particle of stupidity removed from our gun laws.

Your instructor is an idiot. Obviously he doesn't remain current in the legal sides of the shooting community. Aside from that, the fact that the tests have not been corrected clearly illustrates that the CFSC/CRFSC courses are a complete waste of time.
On a side note, all rifle ammo is "armor piercing" when discussing soft armor.

I never took the course, just challenged both exams, so that may be why nothing was said. I got the question wrong, which is why I remember it. The course book said nothing about hollowpoints, so I think it has been updated and my examiner was simply behind the times. He was decent on everything else, though. Wasn't worried about tiny details on the practical, just that I could safely handle firearms and knew what I was doing with the various actions. No bad attitude like others I have read about on CGN.
