Whats the hardest kicking gun you ever fired?

Big guns

The biggest gun I've had the pleasure of shooting was a 500 A-square,5 shots in a row.It rattles you a bit, you don't want to be a newbie.

holy old thread, batman!

The 3 biggest thumpers I own, in order, are:

500 A-square hannibal. ~12lbs or so, no brake. 600 grainer at 2600fps
378 weatherby, BRNO zk602. ~11lbs, magnaported. 300 grainer at 3000 fps
45-70 H&R buffalo classic. ~ 8lbs. 400 grainer at 2000 fps

Then the little stuff like 338's and 12 gauges. I'm still missing a 416 rigby from my collection, and if I knew I could find a decent supply of 14.5mm bullets I'd consider having a no. 1 chambered in 577 nitro, 585 nyati or 577 tyranno

I haven't really shot anything stronger then a 12ga 3" slug, or a hot 338 cartridge (thanks marshall).

But I do remember shooting 12ga slug as kids. It was quite the laugh. Like shooting a T- Rex today.

I guess that there are not too many Forum members who have had the experience of firing either the PIAT (Projector, Infantry, AntiTank), or the Boys .55 cal AntiTank rifle.

The PIAT, with its very heavy spring launching device, could give you a memorable, but usually controllable, discharge.

The Boys, however, was a pig.

Ruger no 3 in 45/70

I once had a Ruger No 3 in 45/70 which was an unpleasant to shoot, I also had a Ruger no 1 in 45/70 which was a pleasure to shoot. The difference being the stock. I recently read that the Winchester 95 had a a reputation as a hard kicking rifle, due to the stock having a thin butt and also the drop of heel. I think in many cases it is the design of the stock and not so much the caliber of the rifle.

1927 Mosin-Nagant (of Finnish manufacture) dragoon. I've been shooting it for about a year and a bit and it bruises every time unless I pad it. Big boom, big flash. It's a ripper!

Anything that launches a 400+ gr bullet at over 2000 fps and weighs less than a metric tonne (not up on my metric conversion, but read about 12 lbs) will kick the hell out of you. Try my .45-70 with a 405 gr @ 1900 - makes my 10 ga O/U feel like a girly gun;) No offense intend to the ladies here, and yeah I mean you too, DVD!!!

Rem. 870 super magnum with 3 1/2" #5 Remington turkey load shot through an Undertaker turkey choke, 77.75lb/ft recoil. The 12 gauge Win. Nosler partition sabot slugs do a number on the old shoulder as well.

I do not shoot firearms that are not pleasant to handle...should I ever want the sh!t kicked out of me I shall go to the pub and cause a blue...at least then I get to kick back !

.416 Remington Magnum. I have fired a .416 rigby, .460 Weatherby, and a .510 wells but for some reason none of them kicked as bad as that damn .416 rem mag!

This weekend I shot a box of Hornady Heavy Magnum .458 Win Mag (chronied at 2250) off the bench, from my 70 Classic Express. Excellent ammo, very uniform velocities and accurate enough for short range work. If I could raise my arm above my shoulder or bend my fingers into a fist I would give it a big thumb's up.

its toss up, 8mm rem mag. 225 gr. (load devolpment was 3 people in shifts) or a 10 gauge single shot with a slug first time I fired it, was my last!

I wasn't sure if being behind it was much worse than being in front of it!
