Whats the hardest kicking gun you ever fired?

A Tikka T3 Lite in 300WSM. The thing actuall did damage to my arm it would kick so hard with the factory hockey puck on the end of the stock. Accuracy wasn't great either but I put this down to flinch factor and the for longest time it put me off of Tikkas which are fine guns. I ended up trading it for a Savage 16FCSS which is much more tolerable but is still the hardest kicking gun in my inventory.

Mine was another .460 Weatherby. An older gentleman and club member had aquired it as part of a collection he bought. While not wanting to shoot it himself, he did want to test it for function and accuracy before he re-sold it. Four of us at the range that day volunteered our shoulders for the cause. We all shot standing. The first guy (average build) took one shot and it knocked his ball cap off and he stumbled back a step. Guy #2 (linebacker type) took 2 shots then politely declined a third. I was #3 (same build as guy #1) and took 2 shots. After watching the first guy, I gripped that rifle like Rosie O'Donnel with an ice cream scoop :D and leaned slightly into it. Both shots picked my forward foot up off the ground a couple of inches! I also declined a third shot. :runaway:
Guy #4 had a bit more experience with big bores (he had been shooting some stout 45-70's that day) and confidently pointed out a rock at the 200yd bank he was going to aim for. That shot, while only missing the intended target by a couple of inches, also sheared the scope mount screws and the scope landed on the bench beside him! :D

Your kidding right
Try a #3 Ruger in 45-70 weighing in at around 5-1/2lbs loaded up with 500gn bullets at 2000fps
Took me 3 yrs to get rid of that flinch after I got rid of the rifle.:p

I took a crack at a #3 in 45/70 the range years ago. I can't recall the exact load but the fellow that owned it said they were as close as he could get to approximating 458 Win ballistics. After firing it I couldn't argue with him, the recoil was very impressive.

My old Rossi single shot 12 gauge comes in at #2 with 3" mags. #1 would be , without a doubt, a .378 Weatherby of an old relative's that I shot on my 21st birthday. Once was enough and I had a HUGE bruise on my shoulder for a whole month! It didn't knock me on my ass, but I sure took a few steps backwards. I even remember that there was a fair sized dust cloud that the muzzle flash and gas kicked up, even though I was standing up to shoot it! !
Fun Fun Fun! ! ! !

.303 Lee Enfield Jungle Carbine, in every position it hurt. I have such a bad flinch with that rifle now I bet I couldn't hit a pie plate at 20 yards.

Gave the last 10 rounds I had of .303 to my dad to shoot them off and now it's going to collect dust for many years to come.

Well I have my worst kicking gun, and my least likely to shoot again. The one I wouldn't shoot again was a 30-06 Winchester 670. Nasty recoil off the bench. It just hurt me but my buddy shot it 40 or so times. Very accurate. My worst kicking is my favourite right now. The 460 Weatherby with the pendelton brake. It's supposed to help a bit, like 20% tops, but I doubt it. I try to shoot 10-20 a month with it if time permits. Soon I think my 510 Wells will be the worst kicker. Time will tell as it doesn't have a brake. I have shot 416's and 378's and a 404 also but none have the kick of the 460.

Heaviest I've shot is my father's Remington 700LH in 7mm Remington Magnum. Not uncomfortable as long as you hold the thing tight, but you definitely have to watch the scope.

I will not, however, EVER shoot the thing without hearing protection again.

Hardest? Hmm..I was shooting with my friend's 45.70. that thing kicks like a mule! I would hate to try out a full box on it...my shoulder would be in tough shape!

So far for me it was a friends #5 Enfield jungle carbine...I don't know what they did to that design in the day, but they are freaky kickers IMHO

THANK YOU CALUM! I have stated this on many occassions and most people think I'm crazy. :p I've shot alot of big-bore rifles and handload hot for some, but off the bench there is nothing that compares to my #5 for smashing your shoulder. Shooting off-hand is fine, but like you say there is something in the design of that stock that just bites in. .

Hardest kicking would be my dad's spanish double barrel duel trigger 12 gauge. I shot both barrels at once with 2x 3" turkey loads. My nose was bleeding and my hand's knuckles were in rough shape. The stock didn't crack but the internal spring for the firing pin got stretched out because of recoil.
I also used to own a 303 Jungle Carbine and I agree, it seemed to hurt everytime I shot it. My 500 S&W single shot H&R rifle seems to rock me pretty hard as well. I still wanna buy a 458 Lott rifle some day.
