Just wandering how much some fully tricked out SKS's are selling for......could be fun, bearing in mind that there are so many bits to bolt on.
Or failing that tell us how much YOU have tied up in yours, ya dont have to tell us who you are, God knows we dont want the wifey to know eh.
Ive got 1100 tied up in my 400 dollar 305..stupid ...maybe but Im happy :)

What I'm curious is at 1100 for an sks, does it become more accurate or is it just all look and feel upgrades?

My bad.....I have 1100 tied up in a Norc 305, cant imagine how you could spend thatsort of money on an SKS............but who knows :)
I have 160 bucks in the SKS..Tapco stock and 2 mags.Didnt go with optics and I imagine thats where the serious money is getting spent.

They have to all be look and feel as i've never seen any aftermarket SKS barrels or actions? Spending hundreds on a $200 rifle is like putting 20" rims on a $400 Chevy.

haha ya the most i would ever do to my sks, and thats assuming it was one ot the majic ones that is somewhat accurate, is the tapco timbersmith stock. love the look. I once wanted the tapco plastic toy one but decided against it

In Canada? I think I saw one on the EE for like 700 bucks. Of course, it was Bubba'd and horrible looking.

In General? North Korean one for sale in the US for just over 4 grand.

who would spend serious money on serious optics for an sks? haha

It's truly amusing what some people feel the value of their used SKS is. Generally the prices range from unreasonable to obscene depending on how much aftermarket crap is put on. NCStar scopes, Tapco or (even worse) ATI stocks, silly rails and cheap scope mounts, bipods, and my favorite the removal of the bayonet, all add up to serious dollars. Heck I've seen bone stock, used Chinese SKSs on the EE priced at a modest $350, same ones Weimajack sells brand new for $169.

When Wholesale Sports retailed Russian refurbs for $157 plus tax that pretty much set the bar for what these guns are really worth. After I got my laminated upper handguard Tula with original stock and accessories at that price (and yes I made them bring out more than one) I am loathe to buy a lesser gun for more.

My original Norinco SKS I bought back in the mid 1990s for $86 from Century Int'l Arms. I'm willing to bet that when bought in volume, dealers are getting theirs these days for around $100. Any SKS except perhaps very rare models isn't worth much more than $250 tops IMO, Yugos and -Ds included. The only model I would pay a premium for are the hen's teeth variants like the Albanian and North Korean.

Its buyer beware, just like anywhere else.
Theres guys here ( and other sites)think their sks is the gold plated s**t.
Sorry but its market value only, no matter how much youve spent on it.
Its still only a piece of s**t rifle, good for nothing but puting a smile on youre face while burning cheap ammo.

Example;

I have a 49 sks for 2000.00 bucks. would you even inquire about it ?... of coarse not, let them gloat in their own delusions. offer 200 tops and see what happens. Chances are youll get the rifle.

I wouldn't go as far as calling it a piece of s**t,It's actually a very well thought out design that is as reliable as it gets. But I get what you're saying,it does put a smile on my face when i shoot the s**t out of it:D

They are only as good as they shoot.
Accuracy comes at a price, and so does power down range.
The sks has neither, although it is functional.:)

The SKS is definitely not a POS rifle. Even the cheapest commercial grade Norinco SKS is more reliable than most firearms and goes bang every time. It is, however, little more than the centerfire equivalent of a Ruger 10/22. Cheap to buy, cheap to feed, not good for much more than 100 meters worth of plinking, noise making, and occasionally hunting.

So if we cant make them more accurate or more powerful, then they are?...

#1- a good deal, I love wasting time at the range.:D
#2-frustrating at trying to make sense of the groups you just fired.
#3-so happy my gun shoots all over the place, i think i,ll buy more ammo and do it all over again...:D

I pick # 3 cause im a Canadian gun nut, and some how i just love these silly rifles.

accuracy is mediocre at best I totally agree, although i'm sure it would improve with hand-loads but probably not by much.as far as power go's I bet there's a lot of folded American flag owners that could attest to it's power.

I sold my SKS for this reason. The accuracy is dicey at best. It's basically a bullet hose. And it varies so widely from rifle to rifle. The triggers are probably one of the worst I have ever pulled on a milsurp rifle lol I had a 1950 tula Russian I paid $240 after tax for brand new.

I think I sold it for $200 because I shot it and enjoyed it and I'm not one of "those guys" who thinks that a second hand gun somehow doubles in value lol

They are cool to own I guess if you are into hoarding and history etc but I like to shoot my guns and I wasn't getting near the accuracy I expected out of it at 100 meters. It was shooting sewer lid sized groups lol The bore was mint. My SVT-40 and M44 Mosin will both do 6-7" groups consistently at 100 meters with cheap junk ammo.

As for the most expensive SKS? I have read articles and seen pictures of North Vietnamese SKS's captured and brought back in the Vietnam War going for $2K in the states. Probably the most rare and expensive example out there. But imagine the history!
