Whats the Most unusual/ odd/ classic Cartridge you've taken Deer+ game with?

I should add one... 7x57Rimmed. Common in Europe but not here. Do I get extra points if it was in a nice old German Drilling? And I have another O/U combination gun in that caliber too, a Merkel. Killed Deer with that one too. Also, got an Elk with a .356 Winchester in a M94. The .356 is on the edge of exotic, the cartridge is pretty much obsolete already, but not actually old.

That gets you at least an extra point, with an additional point for including the bird in the photo. I just got myself a Merkel combination, I'm hoping to replicate your success this fall!

Some nice Calibres mentioned Longwalker- the 356 model 94 on the Elk sounds awesome!
may of read some of your stories on other forums? particularly lever gun huntin

8mm-06. Taken whitetail with an ugly old sporter 98. The cartridge is often mentioned as having come about after WW2 when returning American servicemen had the chambers reamed to accommodate resized 30-06 brass, which was more readily available than 8mm Mauser.

32 Winchester Special. Much has been written about the old cartridge. To me, it is basically a 30-30 with a wee bit fatter bullet. Good old bush cartridge. Gun writers go on about different twist, etc.

I haven’t hunted big game with anything overly odd but I like to take my 20 gauge muzzleloader out for upland a few times every year. Expressly when going with someone who is not familiar with me, they usually keep there distance. Lol

My go-to cartridge for North American big game is 7x57. Muliple Whitetails, Muleys, black bear moose and elk over the years. Very much a "do it all" arrangement. Have used .250-3000, .375 Winchester and 45-70 Gov't also, as far as "unusual" chamberings go.

More recently I've used the 6.5x55.

.270 Win became a proven "close second" to the 7x57, after my first African plains game trip.

Last WT buck with 30BR. Last Muley buck with 30-284. Probably use a 6.5 X 47L this year (with which I previously harvested deer).

Classics: 30-30, 6.5x55, and 9.3x62
Oddballs/unusual's: guess this definition can be very subjective to the person and/or region...
250AI, 338 Federal, 338-06, 375 Win, and 376 Steyr
While I have harvested quite a number of animals with the 358 Win, while not very common, there are a surprising number of people that have hunted with them

Suzuki GS550 for an Island Blacktail buck. Just up from the 7-11 in Comox, headed for home on base.
The joys that come from watching the deer that already ran across the road, instead of the one chasing them!

Otherwise, it's been a .223, for Mule Deer a couple times. At least, as far as 'out of the ordinary' goes.

Most of the rest have been boring old 30-30, and .308 Winchester.

In the past few years, I have shot mule deer with my 9.3x57 and a 45 colt.
I won't be using the colt again, there just isnt enough ooomph.

45 Colt is perfectly adequate if you properly handload in a strong action. If you're using factory cowboy loads, not so much. Range is still limited though, same as any other pistol cartridge.

.45 colt is not legal for hunting big game in Sask. any more. Regs changed a couple years ago. I wanted to hunt deer with my .357 mag. carbine, that possibility went away too.
