Is that so? well I have gotten some pretty impressive groups out of the one's I have shot and owned over the years. Maybe you need more practice?

I think that perhaps you are simply much easier to impress as far as groups go than I am.

I have had experience with more than a few Lee Enfields, and most would have been very lucky to shoot consistent 1-1/2" groups at 100 yards with a scope mounted.I don't find that at all impressive. Some did better, but they were by far the minority.

Maybe you just got a dud. But the Enfields I have owned produced me some pretty decent groups for an old gal.

They are old rifles .. it's like comparing a model T to a BMW... get a life

I don't see the need to make allowances due to age, since I have seen some much better made rifles that were every bit as old if not older than the Lee Enfields. Some of the old Mausers as examples.

Are you saying that it's the worst gun ever like the other guy? Because there is no way in hell it is even close to the worst gun ever. That individuals comments to have them all melted down and burnt is absurd.

I never posted that.I did post that being old does not make a gun any better, and it does not excuse sloppy tolerances and on average sub standard accuracy. It was a military weapon, and it served it's purpose as such, but it was not popular because it was a great gun,it was popular because it was cheap and readily available.I personally don't own one,and never will.I don't own a stevens 200 either, but I would much sooner hunt with a stevens 200 in a cartridge with better ballistics than with a Lee Enfield in 303 british.

gitrdun: Your being an arsehat. The Lee Enfield is a fine rifle, and probably one of the most Canadian in existence. Thoroughly reliable, rugged, and very fast. It also took us through two World Wars. Moan Labe means "Come and take them" or "Come and get them", it was a famous reply purportedly by the Spartans made when they were instructed to hand over their weapons. I'm going to make a wild guess that northwoodslivin and Vimy are about half your age, and somehow feel educated and superior for having this fragment of knowledge and having seen the aweful movie 300.

northwoodslivin: You think you're being witty with the lame pictures, it got old FAST. This feels like a teen forum with you in it. Yes, the Lee Enfield's good, and so's the Stevens 200. Gitrdun's comments were asinine, but you're talking asinine to a whole new level with the childish pics. Only you and one other guy, who I envision practicing patting his tummy and rubbing his head right now, seem to enjoy what you're doing.

You know..

The first chunk of this message I was like, right on.. a guy with a brain, then you had to turn into an immature punk like the others.

I am likely older then you are ;)

Now if you really want to poke fingers at crappy .Mil rifles, take a look at the Mosin Nagant, that is by far the biggest POS ever made for war.

PS My grandfather and great grandfather served in the war. I think I know my history and that was wrong of you to point fingers and make assumptions about my knowledge of the topic

Yes, the Mauser has as very slick action to it. That I can agree with you on.

What are you some kind of wannabe mod? The pics were funny, get a sense of humour buds. You assume a lot about people and seem to have some kind of moral superiority complex going on the way you throw you opinion around this site.

Hardly, I, like others, simply scratch my head at how people online seem to forget themselves for reasons unknown and act childish, or say things they wouldn't say in person. Maybe I just don't understand the internet. I make a conscious effort not to say anything here, or act in a way, that I wouldn't in person. It seems some others here never even consider that, and if they do, I cringe at the thought of meeting them in person. In the course of business, I've met many of the members here in person... LOTS of them. Some resemble their online personalities, some don't, but I digress... My point, simply, is I just wish people would grow up sometimes. Hopefully not too much to ask... but you never know.

It's good to have a 303 Brit around.
Not for hunting but for throwing under the tires when you're stuck. or poking something stinky you dont want to touch. Extension for a jack?, any reason is good, They are cheap enough.

Have some self respect.:slap:
You'll get none when you show up at the deer camp with something like that.
Anyone who has a job, can get better than that.:yingyang:

My candidate for most useless is the C2 (the full auto version canadian FN).

At 300 yards the first shot hits the target, the second hits the firt about 50 yards in front and the third goes over the top of the target. As a fighting rifle, it is useless. It may be the only rifle I have shot once or twice and never wanted to shoot again.

I am slightly predudiced because my Bren is just the opposite. Accurate and fun to shoot.

While I can understand that some may find the lee Enfield clunky and unappealing, I don't see how it can be put on a "useless" list.

I have a #1 sporter which I lend out many hunting seasons to someone wanting to borrow a rifle for deer or moose. It has many virtures.

It is 100% reliable and has no quirks. (I won't lend a Mauser, a rife i prefer, becasue if he tries to laod it with a round in the chamber instead of the magazine, the bolt won't close and rifle is out of commission.

It has a removebale magazine.

It has a good, safe trigger.

Power is adequate. 180 gr @ 2500 fps

Accuracy is adequate for eastern bush. About 2.5 in at 100 yds

No one will break into your truck to steal it.

Those Sir are fighting words....
If it wasn't for the Lee Enfield history would be might be a little different, we avoided the need to post to the internet in German, if indeed there were an internet ever developed, or if the internet developed, you would have to meet certain racial requirements to post on it. Not to mention posts would be screened carefully...

The Lee Enfield has played a significant part in the world's history. The things that make it an excellent battle rifle make it an excellent hunting rifle. That some many are still around, still being used, and are still reasonably accurate is a testimony to how tough and reliable they are.
For many folks who had limited money in the late 1940s, 50's, 60's and into the 70's the Lee Enfield was a low cost means to allow them to hunt and shoot.

The .303 British cartridge is still more than adequate for ANY big game in North America and has been used on big game in all parts of the world.

And if Mr. Dion gets even a minority government the Lee Enfield may be one of the few guns he won't prohibit and confiscate.

My good buddy RepublicOfAlberta, has an old Lee-Enfield that he paid something like $125 for. One day when we were at the range shooting he pulled that thing out and proceeded to shoot 5 groups of 5 shots each and every group was inside an inch. I couldn't believe it!
A military-surp WW-II survivor, with ZERO frills and that old service rifle would out-shoot 90% of the rifles that guys brag about on this site.

Only ####ing fools would run down the Lee-Enfield.

I believe the context of several of the comments were done in weak attempts at humor.
