what's the most useless gun ever

Those who claim to dislike handguns have never been in a situation where they needed one. Consider the benefit a .22 belt gun would be to a trapper, or a a big bore revolver to those who works in bear country like prospectors, surveyors or tree planters. Consider also that once the handguns are gone, the hoplophobes will start to take a serious look at your bolt guns. The hopolophobes know they must take a small steps in order to prevail, and unless all those in the firearms community consider any ban unacceptable they will win.

Excellent post Boomer :dancingbanana:

Just like the dork that posted this
"for big game hunting, I'd have to say anything semi-auto."

I guess you just have to look where it comes from :D

Yeah Boomer nailed it with that post for sure Senior.
I agree with your assessment of the semi post as well.;)
Supers comment about WSM's being useless was funny in a 'special' kind of way.:p
I think that any shotgun when loaded with buckshot for big game is worse than useless it is stupid...
I think that firearms in general are only as useless as the operator...

yeah... I hear that a lot, and yet every one I've seen at the range has been a jammomatic POS. Most recently I had to hammer the bolt open on my buddy's Norc SKS three times in less than an hour, using Norc ammo. Finally I just tossed him the hammer, told him to keep it--in return he had to stop bragging about how cheap his gun collection is...

For my money the most useless firearm would be a .50 BMG with iron sights, and no scope. :dancingbanana:

Are you sure it was the rifle and not the brass? Does your friend know how to fully field strip his rifle? I don't mean to be a pr*&k, but one has to cover all the bases.

I agree with Boomer,
handguns are extension of our hand and brain. We use them combining two. For some, I guess they are extension of their ##### and that is why we have problems. What is wrong with handgun? I do not see anything wrong, what is wrong with abusive person, answer yourself Dustin.

Not really a hunting and sporting gun but I hate handguns. Wouldnt bother me one bit if they were wiped off the face of the earth and replaced with bolt actions.

My vote goes to the ......you guessed..the crappy sks.......:runaway:
Your call, but in all honesty I can't see how you could honestly rationalise that choice. They may be clunky, and borderline trash, like old Lee Enfields, but they work, like some old Lee Enfields, both as a military rifle and as hunting guns. I used to have several clients who used SKS rifles for whitetail deer and bear hunting, and ditto for the LEs. Now neither would have been my choice, or recommendation in a million years, but they worked.

Mind you, I preffer your methodology, as it would allow me to say the Savage 99. I mean if you want a clunky lever get a Win 94, if you want a high power lever get a BLR, if you want a good looking lever get an old Marlin. The Savage, with its dubious looks just exists, it fills no real niche, and doesn't do anything particularly well. Not to mention I used to loathe having to drill and tap them for customers, what a PITA :runaway:

What the F*** are you talking about? I have NEVER said anything against handguns moron...I have 5 with a sixth coming.

This is really just a troll-thread, i.e. "The SKS sucks", but I'll play.

As for the "Most useless gun ever for hunting", it's clearly not the SKS given the number of deer killed every year by it.

I can't name a particular gun, but something that's single shot, a bugger to load for, difficult to shoot accurately, long, heavy and ridiculoulsy over powered would have to be the winner.

Perhaps an anti-tank gun? :p

Hey AMPHIBIOUS there is a spot in our camp if you wanna come for a week.Would love to have you out.You might just have fun. Also would love to see how you fair out shooting deer with hounds on thier ass.My bet is you would have a different view on the semi/pump thing when you leave. Not that you need a semi, pump or a lever but sometimes you need a quick second/third shot and using one of these actions helps a heap when two or three deer come running out to you.

Our camp are meat hunters. If we get a trophy its a bonus.

Let me know what time to pick you up at the Ottawa air port.Season here opens up on the 6th of Nov.

Yet another SKS bashing thread, by 303 carbine.
I'll swing buy the pharmacy later, and pick you up a little of this...

Also I was going to use my .303 to hunt deer with this weekend, but methinks I'm now taking the SKS instead...I'll double tap that critter just for you barbie. :p

And to answer your veiled question, the most useless gun you can take is the one you don't practice with, or know how to shoot well.

Dustin,
we need more people like you, calling names perfect.
Wonder what causes people to act like that?
BTW,Nice flag on your icon. I wonder if you share same ideology,
with those who were singing ..." Drang nach Osten"... in late '30s?

I wonder how you will behave with the gun in your hand, if you so jumpy?

Idiots and guns = that is what antis want.

how about those old ross rifles i read about in jane's, it said their bolt would shoot back into your face if the action got dirty?
anybody know the model?

Rem 710 Gets My Vote for POS Rifle, too!

Rem 710 has got to be the #1 P.O.S. out there.

Yeah, the Rem 710 is pretty much despised by the "in the know" regular rifle crowd. Especially those who have had the pleasure of owning/shooting the Rem 700.

Rumour has it, though that the 710, while ugly & suffering quality control issues can be a reasonably accurate econo rifle. But look for it to be dropped off of Remington's hit-parade. Especially since the Rem 700 SPS sales go into orbit. ;)

I don't know why guys would bash the SKS.... While I've never owned an SKS and don't particularly care for the Chinese mfg ones [stock too short for one]. But you have to give 'em that they are a good value for the money utilitarian rifle. Perhaps one day I will get one - hopefully a Russian or Yugo with the longer stock...

My 2 cents

I had a friend (he's now at that big rifle range in the sky) that once had 3 of those .357 caliber Timberwolf pump rifles from Israel. As soon a the mercury dropped below 0 c none of them would fire. The hammer would drop but not dent the primer of the cartridge. A great gun for Canada;)
