Whats up with the Ruger M77 model rifles?

I had a number of Ruger MKI's in various chambering's... I was pretty happy with the performance of all of them, including the 7X57... I tried a newer MKII Hawkeye a few years back and now own six of them in the .308 case family (.243, .260, 7mm-08, .308, .338 Fed and .358 Win) absolutely love these guns... the build quality, feel and heft, balance and accuracy are excellent... I enjoy them so much, that I am occasionally tempted to leave my No.1's in the safe when heading afield.

I found another ruger m77 tang safety in 338win mag. with a good bore, comes with a synthetic camo stock and original wood stock in decent condition also comes with rings and a dieset- for 525shipped. Seems kinda cheaped priced?

it is a good deal but its the wrong cal. Im looking for a 280. I already have a 325wsm to cover a 338win mags needs, so I don't want two hunting rifles with pretty much the same power, trajectory.

If it were me, I'd grab the Ruger 77/.338 and sell off that .325 WSM... I know where you can get the .280 and it's a dandy... PM inbound.

This is the Mk1 ruger m77 I was talking about in one of my first post on this thread: 280.
The owner wants 650$ with the rings and scope and I could probally get it shipped @ that price.
Is it worth the money? Or should I wait for the a gunshow within the next month?

I would say that it is worth it... grab the .280 and the .338... sell the .325 and recoup 2/3's of your money... what's not to love about that?

Just wanted to put another good word in for the ruger. I have a stainless international in 308 and I couldn't be happier with it. I've never had a rifle point so fast and feel so good. I actually prefer it over my Sako for hunting.

I am a recent Ruger M77 convert.
I like the CRF, the Mauser-style swing safety, and the fact that the bottom metal/trigger guard is made of steel.
And as a result, I am starting to sell off my Sako collection, lol.

These days my fav rifles seem to be in stainless/walnut .. and I recently traded this lil beauty for a Sako AV ..
a mint Ruger M77 Hawkeye RSI International (Lipsey's Special Edition, 1 of 250 made) in 7x57mm :

Full-length stock, 18.5 inch barrel. The quality of craftsmanship is very impressive. The feel and balance and pointability is just right.
In this, I think that I've have acquired something 'tailor-made' for deer hunting here in the West Coast's heavy timber .. :)

Yes, you have...

I have a No.1-A and a No.1-RSI in 7X57... and they are truly fine hunting rifles...

(in part)
Lastly, there was a recall on the tang safety Rugers, and there should be a T stamped on the underside of the bolt to indicate it went back to the factory. Mine has something that could be a T or not, I'm leaning more towards no. But I don't have any problems with mine so far. I think the problem was some screw backing out making the trigger mechanism unsafe, so they glued it or something in place at the factory. It's on the Ruger website.

It was a lawyer problem! The original adjustment on the trigger could lower the weight to where it was very nice. Then people got sue happy, so along with lowering the powder charges in reloading manuals, Ruger recalled the 77 rifles to put a heavier spring in the trigger. Actually, they didn't bring the rifles in, but simply sent you the spring with instructions of how to install it.
Damn, never was any good at reading instructions and I never did get it installed!

OK, I wasn't quite right on the details. It was a screw they sent, to replace the original.
But it was the same idea, putting a limit on light the trigger could be set.
Here is a view of the instructions they sent.

I have the same rifle! They are very nice. I mounted a Leupold VXIII 1.5-5x20 on mine and it shoots very well. Haven't hunted with it yet. Your's is a beauty!

Well I found another good deal. A ruger m77 in 7x57 with tang safety, 22 inch barrel, and rings- for a very good price of 450$. I think I will settle with this deal as its similar to a 280 but with more character. Mint condition.

Agreed... that is a good deal... check the throat... if it is oversized try the longer, "heavy for caliber" bullets... my old MKI 7X57 shot quite poorly with sub 140 bullets, but was like a completely different gun with 175's...

I might have got the details mixed up with the Remington 600 which also had a recall.
