My advice is to collect gun safes for a while...then fill them.

Then you tell yourself a 22 and a good all round 308 will cover all bases.

Its true! Of course also need 9mm (carbine and handgun) and 12GA then covered.

However... in .22 need pistol, single shot bolt, tube feed bolt, tube feed SA, magazine fed bolt, magazine fed SA (and missing from my collection - pump & lever).

In 9mm need plastic frame, alloy frame, steel frame, stainless steel frame... SA, SA/DA, DAK... Wait... no revolver... so need .357 mag (and if .357 need lever action), hey how did an other calibre sneak in there?)
