Whats your Big Game plans for 2008?????

Well, what do you wanna know?;)

We have two seasons here in Manitoba. The earlier one, presumably during the rut, is by draw. The later one in December is open to any resident buying a licence and is different areas. We have number of areas I could try. There is logging and mining land up around Nopaming, many small lakes and swamps, bush, endless logging roads. There is also up around Lake Winnipeg where there are small rivers and streams where I've heard guys have had success. Its sounds like Moose hunters travel a lot to find their game. Calling, waiting, watching, moving on. The thought of canoeing up into some remote area intriques me. But not in December! How would a hunt in the later season work? Do the Bulls still respond to calling in December? I'm sure you can tell from these questions I have no experience at this whatsoever, other than having seen a number of moose on deer hunts in November. Some of the one's I've seen were no problem at all to get close to. Others were running like a runaway train.

Elk first, as usual, then moose and Deer to follow. Will be headed for the Empire Valley again....love that area! Freezer is too full right now to worry much. Regards, Eagleye

I'm planning my first deer hunt and am hoping to get a turkey or two maybe moose or bear up north if I can figure a way to get in a group with a bull tag. And my brother is getting into hunting so maybe I can help him get a deer I would rather he get one than me because he is young.

Predators for the early part of 2008 and then maybe a muzzle loader for the early dear season here in Sask.

I'm turning 40 in 2008. I was thinking I deserve a sheep hunt for my 40th birthday...

My buddy guides for a well known northern BC outfitter, I'm going to see how well he can hook me up.;)

Jan 1st I will be out coyote hunting, and continue to do so until the end of March :D early Sept hopefully will be an elk hunt, and Sept/Oct will be mixed bag of moose and deer and waterfowl, and Nov will be deer. Dec will be predator calling season again ;)

In the spring, I'll be up north for a bear. Come fall, hosting a couple of fellows from the Yukon on an elk hunt. I should have good priority built-up for a nice mulie rack down south. And I will be hunting a newly found area for a big WT buck.

Finally happening, Wife says I should do something before I get old ;) so.......I'm going to Africa in September:D. Cape Buffalo and leopard with 6 others on the list. I am just a little bit excited! Then it's white tails at home and the farm for desert.

You married well, my friend! Kudos on your upcoming trip -- and remember to post pics when you get back!

Who did you settle on as a PH? I'm currently looking at doing the same hunt (leopard/buff/plainsgame) with John Sharp in Zimbabwe -- but in my case, I've got to hold off going until 2011.

Depends on the draw for some. I'm hoping to draw for a moose out by the family farm by Caroline, Ab... If my hunting partner gets the draw, we'll likely be headed there anyway.

If I can twist the BIL's rubber arm, I'm hoping for moose up north by the Swan hills. Dang things are a bit oversized to strap em to my motorcycle (my only wheels at this point).

Elsewise, definitely some WT deer, hopefully I'll get another tag for a mulie down here (they're damn near as thick as gophers in some areas!).

Of course, there's the near obligatory practice on the gophers & coyotes year round.

A few weeks ago i was deer hunting from a ground blind on a new property where a friend knows the owners. I first saw a group of 40-60 Turkey come out of the hardwood and hang out in front of my blind. I scared a few by standing and waving my arms but most stayed. Not even a half hr later another 30-50 freakin turkey showed up and pushed the others away a bit! I have never in my hunting experience seen more than a dozen turkey in a group.

Well didn't they all decide to roost about 20-35 meters behind me when it started to get dark.
What a noise!!! There were so many that they would have 6-10 per branch and they were snapping off and crashing to the ground followed by insane flapping trying to right themselves not to mention the noise they made over 30 min getting up there in the first place!
I had given up at that point as I’m sure mr white tail wouldn’t come within a mile of this racket!
The real kicker is that this was one of the only times I didn’t bring my camera with me.
Apparently the owner has given permission for one hunter and a friend for the spring hunt but I’m optimistic that he’ll let us help thin out this mess next year.

I’m itching to set up there next year!
It’s a shame that we can only harvest 2 a year!
I bet that'll change soon.

Mike
