What's your closest deer?

I think I have the prize. Point blank range.

It was with a pretty large "calibre" as well. A 5.7 litre Chev Suburban. Made that sucker bounce like Tigger 10 feet into the bush on the other side.
I had one of those two, on the ML hunt at Wainright.
Not a bad buck, but hit him with everything the right side of my Cherokee!
We got to the check in and the boyz said "WOW! what'd ya get them with?"

I said " The fork horn mulely I got with my .58, the 5X5 white tail I got with the Jeep!":D

Less than 10 yards. I called him right in. Heavy in rut and lookin' for love.

I'v had does within petting distance and some right under my stand. I was tempted to jump them Rambo style :D .

Closest one for me was pretty well straight down three or four feet away from the base of my tree. He was walking briskly toward my stand on my weak side and I didn't have any time to turn and shoulder my rifle. So, I ended up shooting him "strong hand" using a Ruger M77 International in .250-3000.

The 100 grain Nosler Partition went through his spine (dead-centre middle of the back) and settled under the skin in his right flank, just below the ham). Sighting was "down the barrel" just like the bucaneers. I had to watch not to step on him when I climbed out of the stand.

I don't recall any powder burns, but he was close.:)

about 15' with my Enfield .303. No time to really aim, took the little buck right in the back of the neck, just below the skull. Sweet shot & I doubt I could repeat it if I weren't as hungry as I was that day ;)

About 10 yards with a .45 blackpowder. A doe was running straight for me. Got to my feet, aimed for the neck, pulled the trigger, and it flipped backwards.

Closest Deer?

Funny you should ask, it was this November. I was sitting all week in my camo. ground blind. I had a button buck come right up to the blind and literally rub against it. I wasen't sitting in the middle of the blind either, I was sitting in my chair against the edge, looking out the shooting window. The only thing that separated me from the deer was literally a layer of fabric. Cheers.

Five steps to dead deer after the shooting stopped. It was Nov. 1975 and I was shooting my Ruger 44 carbine with Bushnell 1.5-4 Scopechief and 240 grain Remington factory loads (why can't I remember what happened yesterday?). I looked in the scope set at 2X while the deer ran up. All I could see was brown so I squeezed a shot...deer swapped ends...another shot, deer went down. I stood and took five steps to reach the 1 1/2 year old buck with a seven point rack....second day of the season. Dave

Closest ever, almost touching, I'd say around a foot. Didn't shoot that deer, it wasn't deer season.

Closest deer I ever shot was probably 20 meters, with a bow.

Cheers
Jay

About 5 yards 30/30 with 150 grains.Closest miss was a 14 point buck that was between my brother and me and we were 10 yards apart in tall swamp grass.Brother got 4 shots off and missed every time.Didn't see the deer after the first shot I hit the ground wondering what all the shooting was about
