What's your closest deer?

10yrds with a .303britsh

the bullet blew up on impact and left huge caping hole in it's side virtually no penetration besides the little bits of shrapnel that whent threw him. he dropped right where he stood though.

this is when I decided to only use premium ammo for hunting. no more cheap stuff and hopefully something like that wont happen again.

Kyle.

Closest Ive been to a deer was this past rifle season. Out on a hydro tower line sitting of course, relaxing in the sun. A doe and 2 fawns somehow made it out to me, within 15-20 feet till I heard em. Never intended on shooting, just sat there and watched. Then the lead fawn let out a snort and they were gone!

I donot remeber the distance but it was a 303mk4 open sights. I poked my rifle and head through the pine tree she was on other side at tip of branches. she ran about 150 yards back from there. figured I just scared the be-jeezes out of her.

Hunting with a good friend and we pushed a nice buck into a wash out in a field. It was about 20 ft wide and 15ft deep. I pushed from one end and it ran right by him. He leveled it with about a 10 ft shot from his .50 cal hawken.

That was a solid bang flop if I ever saw one.

was walking in some alder and spooked a doe that took off. glanced sideways and theres a 3pt Blacktail with another doe about 75 yds slowly sneaking off into the thick stuff. i stalked to a small ridge they went up and peeked over, thinking they are long gone. there's the buck trying to hide broadside behind a deadfall about 25 ft. the doe's watching me. both are twitching, so am i. the only way i get a shot at the buck is if i take 2 steps sideways. i dialed down the scope. when i stepped the doe turns her head to run. the buck froze long enough and dropped in his tracks from the 85gr TSX out of my .243

i practiced 200 and 300 yds shots all summer at Mission for that 25 ft shot....lol

Horizontal distance - zero yards; vertical distance - 3 yards. Deer decided to bed down right under my treestand...
Same here.Rattled and grunted a 7pt that came in behind me through the thick stuff.Shot straight down(20ft?) through the spine between the shoulder blades.30-06 Rem 7600.BANG FLOP!

I've shot several(5-6?) deer over the years inside of 10 yards from the ground as well while stillhunting with gun/bow.

you are truly a hunter dude.
It was the last day and getting on dark. I had already shot a nice doe and i went out to have something to do (before i started the chores). My dad and brothers where hunting along with some of my freinds. It was a cold dirty day with snow and i was nice and warm. With the amount of guys in the woods i took a stand that was close to the barn and figured id kill time since i like being in the woods. I dozed off for a few minutes and when i looked up she was standing there. I think she was attracted by the corn silage smell on my boots. Im a meat hunter not a trophy hunter casue you cant eat the rack.

Well while doggin a bush with our crew, a doe and fawn (we hunt controlled hunt) busted across the doggin line. The guys 80 yards to my left pulls up and shoots the doe. The fawn running from the shots turn and bolts right at me. By the time i get the run half raised it is almost on top of me. I lift my leg and bam down falls the deer. Bang, shoot it there at my feet at the end of the barrel. Clean kill, no kick nothing. 12 guage shotgun. I have shot about 5 deer now under 15 feet. I like to shoot em close, so i don't have to walk far to gut them.

I didn't have a tag at the time but a doe walked up and smelled the muzzle of my rifle (Remington 25-06). I missed a doe this past fall at about 50 feet:redface:
